JACK ABRAMOFF'S BIGGEST BENEFACTOR - HARRY REID
This mornings announcement that Washington super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff cut a plea deal to testify for the government has been the lead story throughout the day. Every news source and news break that I have read or heard has stated that this plea bargain could have dire ramifications for Republicans. Now it is WELL known that Abramoff has powerful connections in BOTH parties and this could have complications for many in a bi-partisan way, so to speak. Yet one of his main benefactors whose name has not sufaced in any report since the first announcement of the Abramoff indictment and certainly not mentioned in any story about the plea bargain is none other than Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D, NV). It turns out that the Senate's top Democrat has accepted tens of thousands of dollars from one of Abramoff's top clients, the Coushatta Indian Tribe, after interceding with the Secretary of the Interior over a casino dispute with a rival tribe. Reid has denied knowing Abramoff or ever meeting him in prior interviews. Reid also serves on the Indian Affairs committee in the Senate and has a prominent voice in Indian issues. He claims that he NEVER received money from Abramoff but stopped short of stating the same about possible clients. Let's see how , "Hapless," Harry weasels out of this one!

"Let's see how Hapless Harry weazles out of this one!" Right on! We should refer to them as weazles, although that may be an insult to all weazles!
The New York times disgusts me, as do most of the largest Newspapers in the land. We definitely have been, and are, under seige.
Pathetic that you have no idea about the scope of Abramoff's corruption and bribery. Also, you also must just read Republican talking points and just be a blind believer.
Reid is Abramoff's "biggest benefactor?" Your link cites $66,000 over a couple of years paid out to Reid. Abramoff raised at least $100,000 for Bush in 2004. He paid Delay's wife $115,000 to find out what each member of congress' favorite charity was. Hastert got $21,500 at one fundraiser by Abramoff just last year while the investigation was going on. Congressman Ney is looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars in kickbacks.
Abramoff worked with Delay on the K Street Project and was a proud REPUBLICAN lobbyist. Sure he had some links to some Democrats and I say any of them that are caught up in this scandal should go down. Public corruption should not be tolerated and it is sad that you are (1) completely misinformed, and/or (2) seem to think that it is acceptable for those people who claim to be Republicans.
I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Rob. Jack A. was a Pioneer meaning he raised a ton of money for BC04(at least 100,000). There is no way to avoid that fact.
It is confusing about who received Abramoff money. Some say they didn't receive Abramoff money but received money from tribes (Abramoff's clients) Specifically Sen Patty Murray is claiming she is clean because the money came from the tribe and not Abramoff. Please clear this up for me.
