SARAH PALIN THE DEMOCRAT TARGET

Since the announcement of Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain's Vice Presidential running mate nearly two weeks ago she has been the focus of attacks from both the media and the Democrat Party. These attacks have been ridiculous and over board to the point that Americans on both sides of the political spectrum are angered about the direction and content of the attacks, even those who would never vote for McCain or support Palin.

Groups who should be heralding Palin's achievements because they have advocated the advancement of women are attacking Palin because she is not a liberal women. Commentators who praised the achievements of Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro condemn Sarah Palin because she has achieved her success without compromising principles and standing fast to her conservative beliefs.

While these attacks against this tremendously popular and accomplished lady have been disgusting and over board they have shown an aspect of liberals and the Democrat Party including the Obama campaign that had not been revealed in this manner before.

Democrats, Obama, the media and liberals in general are so occupied with attacking Sarah Palin because she does not fit the mold of the liberal, abortion favoring, career choosing over family baring women that liberals have touted as the epitome of a successful women, that they have opted to campaign against the number two on the GOP ticket rather than the number one who will be President.

There are two reasons why this has happened. The first was mentioned in the preceding paragraph. Sarah Palin does not fit the liberal mode of a successful women therefor she in not capable nor qualified to run for public office much less being Vice President. Also being a new shining star on the national political stage Palin offers the left something they do not have in John McCain.

McCain has been in the national spotlight for so long that he is an open book. He has been scrutinized through two Presidential campaigns as well as several Senate and House campaigns so any skeletons that he may have had have already been revealed and he not only survived left wing attacks but has come out clean.

Sarah Palin on the other hand is a newcomer who has never had the national scrutiny and is now moving into the spotlight as possibly becoming the first women Vice President and maybe the first woman President. A spot that the left had reserved for Hillary Clinton but now Palin has become the favorite in arriving first for both offices.

This poses two methods of attack by the left that they just cannot resist even if it means sinking the Democrat ticket and losing the Presidency in the process. One, the first women President or Vice president is reserved, in their liberal minds, for the Democrats. After all they have been the self proclaimed champions of women for decades, though their actions against Palin are proving otherwise.

Secondly, the left has always lost elections where they had to compete in the field of ideas so for decades they have used perceived and created scandal as their political weapon. With Palin being a newcomer to the national stage she has not been available for the liberal scandal sheets so the attacks are yet another attempt by the left to destroy the opposition by perceived scandal.

Remember with the left it is not the evidence of scandal but the seriousness of the charge that counts. Also trying to create scandal with Palin, in their minds, provides a door of opportunity that because of the intense scrutiny that McCain has had over he years, that this election has not had until the announcement of Sarah Palin as the number two on the Republican ticket.

To this point it is backfiring on the left, but that will not slow them down because, especially with the weak ticket they have and the paper thin resume of Obama, perceived scandal is their best shot, in their minds, at defeating McCain so Palin is their target and the attacks will continue until election day.

The fact that she is a woman does not matter to the left. The fact that she is popular does not matter to the left. The fact that she has and will make history does not matter to the left. The fact that she has successfully combined a political career with being a loving mom does not matter to the left.

The only thing that matters is trying to create a perceived scandal regardless of how ridiculous the charge and bring down this good and faithful lady because she does not fit their mold and scandal is their only weapon in a political contest where people are looking for leadership and ideas.

The thing that frightens me most is the idea of Palin becoming President if something should happen to McCain. Why not tell the entire truth about McCain and the Surge? Why not tell that the success of the Surge was only made possible by the United States and Saudi Arabia paying millions of dollars to the Suni's, almost a year before the Surge began?

You state "...his father had helped in the liberation of Auschwitz..." That is not 100% accurate. Obama said that about his Great-Uncle, not his father. And he did get it wrong. His Great-Uncle helped to liberate Buchenwald, not Auschwitz. I would say that although an error on his part a prison camp in WWII by any other name is still a prison camp.

Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin's hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. The first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29.
As a smart voter, here’s what you have to look out for: If they find something real and substantial they will release it as soon as they find out and can prove it is true. If all this army can come up with is “he-said”/”she-said” allegations or out-right fabrications and lies, expect them to come out with them about a week to a just a few days before the election. Releasing the lies and distortions on short notice makes it very hard to counter them and prove them false. THEREFOR… Do NOT believe anything derogatory released within one week of the election because it is almost assuredly the latter. Don’t let them play you for a fool… use your brain instead.

You must admit, however, that Palin is digging herself into some holes with comments and claims she has made: Most glaringly, the rejection of the "Bridge to nowhere" which is a categorical falsehood, supported by the facts that she accepted federal earmarks for those funds until it became unpopular, then rejected the idea but never returned any of the money.

Or what about selling the Jet on ebay for a profit? A profit of about -$500,000. And that was only after there were no takers on ebay

Granted there are many falsehoods out there, but the truth is many of the statements she is putting much of her credibility on are flat out false.

I welcome a debate on the topics, but even today the McCain/Palin camp tries to make a policy statement as a "low" blow. The policy I am speaking of is Stem Cell Research. Biden's policy stance is in support of Stem Cells, partially because he claims that in being a "champion" for parents and individuals with developmental and genetic diseases is to allow progress in research and try to develop a cure. Instead of contradicting his claim on the basis of what they stand for (namely that embryonic stem cells are "murder" to them, that adult stem cells are something they may or may not support, that they might support other forms of research [and list specific examples instead of just saying research, like that would happen], or that prevention leaves out those currently effected and they will fully support those effected), they try to attack Biden for an apparent smearing of Palin because her son has Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). Way to focus on the issues and not trying to make it personal.

The debates leave a shred of hope that issues can return to the forefront of this election, and the candidates that Americans most agree with on the issues is what people vote with, and no other perceived strengths or shortcomings with any of the candidates.

I welcome any real debate for my comments here, and leave with one paradigm that further shows me that both sides, not just the "liberal" media, will overlook hypocracies within their own side but try to point out even nonexistant ones in the others, so if someone could explain this to me logically, I would appreciate it:
1) Gov Palin is Anti-abortion under every circumstance
2) Gov Palin is a firm believer and supporter of Abstinence-only education, presumably so because she feels it is a highly effective means of teaching proper morals to children/teaching inclusive sexual education will cause sex before marriage.
Here is where assumptions come into play:
3) Palin taught abstinence-only to her children (this is a big assumption since we don't know, and her stance is to leave it up to parents to teach it, but we have also been lead to believe that she supports abstinence-only education because she believes in its teachings)
4) Palin would not allow or be in favor of her daughter having an abortion (even though Alaska does not currently have parental notice laws according to my quick internet search, but her strong stance believing its murder, I find it hard to believe she would be ok with her daughter "murdering" her potential grandchild)
5) Gov Palin's daughter is pregnant from engaging in pre-marital, presumably unprotected sexual intercourse, and that the pregnancy was unintended (like some 50% of pregnancies in the United States each year)

If all 5 are correct, then the fact that her daughter is Pregnant A) is an issue because it adds further evidence that inclusive sexual education and a national campaign to have cheap and easy access to contraception available to everyone
B) is an issue because her message was not effectively taught or her stance is wrong (see above)
C) the fact that her daughter is keeping the child (and lets assume she wants to keep it and wants to be married to her current boyfriend [ie, had a choice in the matter]) should not be applauded and made out to be a highlight, but should be brushed off as a no brainer or as the only option for her, or if it is highlighted, should be contrasted with a condoning of the failures

If the above 5 statements are not true, then we need to consider more things:
If #3 is false, we need to ask why is it false. Is it false because she taught inclusive but thinks the state should only teach abstinence? The that pulls into the idea that maybe she didn't do a good job of teaching, that her daughter just didn't listen, or that inclusive teaching might of helped reinforce her teachings, and she should really have no objection to inclusive teachings. It also makes statements A-C still valid

If #4 is not true, then Palin is a hypocrit. I find it very hard to see this as being not true though. What could be true is that her daughter would prefer to have an abortion but her mother is practicing what she preaches and forcing her to keep this child. Again, for benefit of the doubt speaking, I will reject this as a possibility, but the real question remains is did her daughter ever even have the chance to consider this option... and if not, why is it being championed as her "choice" to keep the child (and if so, why is it being championed as her "choice" to keep the child since Gov. Palin's stance is to not allow this to be a "choice")

If #5 is false, then that brings up more issues. This could have been a planned pregnancy, however, it likely would not have come out of wedlock. This could be an instance of failure of birth control, which is understandable but doesn't change much of the arguments (again, did it fail because of improper education?). Was this an instance of a splash pregnancy (where ejaculate occurs outside the body adjacent to the female vulva and can cause pregnancy by traveling into the vagina... a very rare but still possible occurrence, but something that would be warned against in both an inclusive sexual education class and possibly in abstinence only education).

The entire handling of this situation, both by the conservative side (applauding) and the liberal side (generally not attacking it, but also not attacking the inconsistencies and policy aspect of it, except the wonderful commentary about it on The Daily Show, which points out many of the inconsistencies I have outlined) is disappointing to me.
