MICHAEL JACKSON - HE SANG, HE DANCED AND HE IS GONE, ENOUGH ALREADY
I had some reservations about posting on Michael Jackson because of the absolute over kill that has taken place since his death almost two weeks ago. I also did not want to come across as disrespectful for the dead, but enough is enough already. Jackson was an all star entertainer who had some great music in its time but otherwise led the most bizarre life of any celebrity in entertainment history.
Since his death the ,"news," coverage has been obsessive and far to much. The speculation about every angle concerning how he died and who contributed to his death has been ridiculous. Bottom line is this, Michael Jackson was a 50 year old man who made his own decisions and how he died was a direct consequence of how he chose to live....period.
Idolizing him as a hero is going way beyond truth and reality. Yes he was a great performer. Yes he had some great music. Yes he made some of the most innovative videos ever made. I have always considered Thriller one of the if not the best music videos ever made. But that is all there is to it. He was not a hero. He was not a role model. He was not a person who broke racial barriers. He was a super star entertainer and that is all.
The racial barriers that he has been given credit for breaking were broken long before Jackson came on the scene by other black performers like Ray Charles and the Temptations. Yet to hear talk over the last several days one would think that no white people ever listened to great black performers before Jackson.
As far as the ,"news," coverage, even the media darling Barack Obama and his trip to Russia took second fiddle to Michael Jackson. Hey Obama is only the POTUS so why cover him. Not that I am touting Obama coverage but come on media get real. Jackson was an entertainer not a god. But the coverage has been ridiculous.
I spent much of the day of the memorial in my car while working and every single time I was able to catch the news on the talk radio station I listen to, the Fox network which is programmed at the top and bottom of the hour broke in with the familiar "alert," music which is usually used for important breaking news and every alert was about the Jackson memorial.
So now he is gone and memorialized so enough already. The fight for custody of his children is between the family and so constant media coverage is not needed or wanted. He's dead so we do not need or want constant speculation about how he died until the autopsy results are made public and then they should only be a quick mention as one of the lesser items in the news.
Jackson is dead, let the family grieve in peace and stop the 24/7 coverage ! His bizarre life style is over and who cares anymore ? He was an entertainer and now that he is gone let the crap die with him and allow fans to remember the music which is why they liked him in the first place. The world is still turning, war is still taking place, North Korea still has a nut bag as a leader and Obama is trying to spend us into bankruptcy. So can we get back to real news now ?!?!?

I'm surprised Obama didn't cancel his trip to Russia so he could be there for the MJ funeral. After all, to listen to the mourners MJ was the greatest person who ever lived.
I do not understand why celebrity personalities/entertainers generates this level of worship and unconditional adulation.
Just baffling to me.
"So can we get back to real news now?"
What's that, Ken? It's all entertainment news anymore. No one simply tells us the news... we have to also listen to their opinion on the news. I truly do wish we could get back to real news, but that seems to have gone by-the-by! Still, you're right about this coverage on Jackson, and why they are trying to make a Black Hero out of him when it is well known he didn't like being Black, is beyond me. If you like being Black would you bleach your skin white and have white children by invitro fertilization? I wish someone could explain to me why the Blacks worship him as if he was Martin Luther King? It makes no sense! Liking his music and appreciating his talent is one thing, but this trying to turn him into a Black Hero is absurd and utterly bizarre and I'm with you - it would be really refreshing to hear about some of the important stuff going on.
I liked his music, the man, not so much. I will be happy to finally start seeing what is happening in the world. I guess, the economy, health care, immigration, threat of nukes.....they take a back seat to the King. It's utterly ridiculous!
