The only people on the right who will make any excuses for the President will be the few Republicans in the Senate who support this idiocy.
I believe Bush is pushing this to accommodate a further agenda most Americans, including Republicans, are too obtuse to perceive (but will hate a lot more when it is sprung on us).

It's a stupid bill however you guys want to spin it.
Mudkitty, the bill receives the majority of its support from your side of the fence. Bush and the Republicans who support it constitute a very small minority on the right.
How you can launch your usual assault on conservatives in this particular instance is a real head scratcher. Or maybe not, given the source.
