FRED THOMPSON RALLYING REAGAN DEMOCRATS
One of the many things that is attributed to the two landslides in 1980 and again in 1984 that elected President Ronald Reagan was an interesting twist within the Democrat Party. Registered Democrats who were tired of what their party was doing and liked the conservative agenda that Reagan ran and governed by came out in large numbers and voted for a Republican. They became known as Reagan Democrats.
Yesterday the Democrat National Committee Website posted a hit piece against Fred Thompson. Usually when this type of piece is posted on the site it is because the DNC is concerned about the impact of an opposition candidate. The post allowed comments.
Low and behold rather than the comments being flooded with additional slams against Thompson, Democrats were actually blasting the DNC for the hit piece against Fred stating that they were not only intrigued by his candidacy but liked what they heard and what he stands for.
The DNC, not wanting to be seen with egg on their face first pulled the comments then the entire post off of their website. Looks like Fred has the ability to cross party lines and appeal to all conservatives regardless of party as President Reagan did. The last time this happened the Dems went down in a landslide as Walter Mondale lost every state except his home state of Minnesota. Go get 'em Fred!

OOooooOoOooOOOOOoooooOOOOO
What are the dems affraid of lil ol Fred Thompson for? lol?
That's great news, Ken!
BTW - there are no Reagan Democrats anymore. This is propaganda. And even worse...you guys have nuthin but the past to harken back to. And the past you harken back to was as much an illusion then, as it is now.
Catfish,
And what does your party have in the present? NOTHING!!
Fred must really scare the crap out of you wackos :-)
Ken,
I have not been following the blogosphere much this week. Do you have links? Any screen captures of the comments and DNC piece, before it was pulled?
We gots da future, Marie, Marie. And Freddie doesn't scare us one bit. He's a flip floppin, Hollywood, hail Mary pass.
Ken, you are promoting a false story. The DNC automoatically shuts off comments on posts after a couple of days.

That said, I read the original piece at the DNC and it was not much of a "hit job." In fact, the post was rather foolish. Dems disagreed with it - so what? There is nothing wrong with honest debate - it does not mean that folks are going to blindly become "Fred Heads" (sounds silly to me).
You can read the post and the comments for yourself. They were not taken down.

The term "Reagan Democrat" is fine with me, as long as people also accept and use the term "Clinton Republican." You cannot have one without the other. The bottom line is that about 20 percent of the country is either independent or not strongly affiliated with their stated parties. These folks switch parties regularly and decide who wins national elections.
Fred Thompson only garners about 20 percent of the Republican vote. I know he is not in yet, but that does not translate into a particularly strong national candidate. But, we are more than a year away so who knows.
FredHeads...they are the part of the base that is tearing itself away from Bush...but can't...but must...

The future? With what? No plan? I dont think you guy's are going to win the Presidential election in '08 just by hating Bush! You forget, he isnt running.
I mean you guy's just barely won the majority in the House and Senate. But the Presidentcy, nah you guy's will have to come up with a plan which is really sad because you still dont have one.
