BUSH THE ENEMY - THE SUNDAY COMMENTARY

The title of this commentary may sound a bit odd especially if you are familiar with my politics. But the fact of the matter is that President George W. Bush the 43 President of The United States is the enemy of the people, the country and the world. Al Qaeda is not the enemy. Hezbollah is not the enemy. Hamas is not the enemy. Iran is not the enemy. Syria is not the enemy. North Korea is not the enemy. The enemy is very plainly George W. Bush. This fact is expressed daily by the media, the anti war crowd, the Democratic leadership both in the party and the House and Senate and by numerous scholars and teachers both in High Schools and Colleges throughout the nation. There are even Elementary and Middle School teachers who express this fact in their classrooms. With this many elites and intellectuals claiming that the President of The United States is the enemy then it must be true. They teach it, they protest in favor of it, they use their journalistic skills to play it in the media in nearly every story. Democratic leaders such as Harry Reid and Nancy Polosi expound on Bush's evil ways and how he is the enemy of all Americans. They and their fellow Democrats lamblast this fact on the House and Senate floor. They discuss it with great passion on the talking head shows. Howard Dean the chairman of the Democratic Party is interviewd or speaks daily of this fact. They write about it in the," great," papers of our time like the New York Times. Even famous celebraties like Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Sean Penn tell their fans around the world that the President is their enemy. "Sweet," moms like Cindy Sheehan tell it. Let's not forget heroes like General Wesley Clark who use their stature as retired military leaders to explain how the President is the enemy. With this many ,"great," people expressing that the President is our enemy then it must be a fact and we as simple minded and loyal Americans must fall in line and accept that he is truly our enemy. After all that is what we are being told. Of course they do forget one minor detrement to our complete acceptance of their fact that the President is our enemy - MOST OF US HAVE BRAINS AND THE ABILITY TO THINK ON OUR OWN AND REALIZE WHAT THEY ARE UP TO!

In all of the years that I have followed politics I have never seen a hatred driven agenda that expresses from so many avenues one single idea such as the lefts obsession with hatred of George W. Bush. This obsessive hatred of the President has created an agenda by the left and the leadership of the Democratic Party to the point that it borders on insanity. They spend all of their time and energy finding ways to destroy Bush, to thwart any and all of his policies whether they agree with them or not, to disrupt the war against the true enemy of us all including them - terrorism and the terrorists who want to kill us! Even when a terrorist plot is successfully stopped as the recent hijacking of ten US bound airliners was those on the left were quick to devert attention from the enemy that was plotting to kill Americans on the planes to THEIR enemy George Bush with claims of the attack happening because of his failed policies and NOT because this terrorist enemy which declared war on us long before Bush became President will stop at nothing to kill all infidels. We are in the midst of one of the most robust and growing economies in the nations history but to listen to the left everyone is on the verge of entering the poor house and the economy is on the verge of collapse. This despite a strong and steady Stock Market. Despite economic indicators that show a strong and growing economy. Despite the creation of millions of jobs and the lowest unemployment figures in decades. Despite record energy prices which would devistate a weak economy yet have not affected the growth of the current economy. If this hatred of the President were just a philisophical hatred by those who politically disagree with him it would be harmless. The danger that this hatred poses though is evidenced by the ways in which it has hampered the war effort even to the point last week in using the courts and a liberal political hack judge to stop a vital program that has been extremely effective in distrupting terrorism and stopping attacks. Yet this vital program has become a tool of their hatred of Bush to destroy him and use as a means of impeachment if they gain the House in November. Now the programs usefulness is in jeopardy, a program that even most Demcorats agree is necessary but its use in their hatred driven agenda is more important than the nations security. This is just one of numerous examples of how this hatred of Bush has hampered the war. There are too many to mention ranging from Murtha and his verbal attacks of our military to the New York Times and their continual revealing of classified programs whose revelation is nothing more than a means to attack the President. From an economic stand point their hatred driven agenda which claims that we are all suffering in this strong economy has caused a certain financial hesititation because of the fear that they might be right, which is unfounded, and caused slower growth than and economy as strong as this one is capable of. Most Americans actually will express that they are doing well financially but because of reports of a, "struggling, " economy they are concerned that their nieghbor is not doing well. One must wonder how strong this economy would be were it not for the false fear created by the left in their claims of a failed economy when just the opposite is true ?

I am not advocating that disagreement is wrong and should not happen. Political disagreement and the ability to express that disagreement freely is one of our most precious and on of our greatest liberties and has always been part of the backbone that has made this country great. Yet when that disagreement becomes an obsessive hatred that drives any political agenda to the point of endangering the nation and causing hesitation in investing in the economy that drives our way of life then that political disagreement loses its reason, principles and shows no core belief other than its hatred. That is what many on the left have become with their obsession of hatred for the President. There are still some who though leaning left and are liberal and in whose politics I disagree do have beliefs and a core that they follow such as Joe Lieberman but the majority of the left have abandoned them and they are not those who run the party or lead them in Washington. Those with the Bush hatred agenda control the direction of the left. This is also why this non issue oriented agenda is an agenda of failure and one that though tried from many directions and expressed in many words is an agenda that the American people as a whole are not buying into and see for what it is. If this hatred driven agenda were to gain power and control of either chamber of Congress in November then we would be doomed to a path of endless hearings, endless demands by the Congress for evidence and investigation of the White House based on falsehoods and hatred driven accusations of Bush that nothing will happen in Congress and the White House will be so time consumed with fulfilling Congressional demands designed to destroy Bush that we could lose this war against Islamic fascism. This is why I truly believe that through their vote the American people will not allow this to happen.

Personally, I think you are completely overstating the "hate" issue. Of course the fringe of the Left hates the President, just like the fringe of the Right hates the Clintons - big deal. The "hate-crowd" on both sides is a distinct minority of this country.

As I have said in the past, I don't hate the man - I don't know him. However, I have legitimate concerns about the man's policies. The Iraq war is just the beginning, but I could point to his failure to capture bin Laden, out of control domestic discretionary spending, increasing the National Debt and our reliance on China, creating a $12 trillion unfunded boondoggle in the highly-flawed Medicare Prescription D program, etc.

Criticism of the president is not "hate." The reason Bush has an approval number in the mid-30s is that the American people - including Republicans - are not satisfied. This is only going to worsen as Iraq spirals even more out of control and Iran becomes more emboldened. However, it will be the economic "bread and butter" issues that will really sink the President. The economy is slowing (that is fact, not opionion), inflation and energy costs are rising (fact), Americans are debt-laden at record levels (fact), and health care is becoming increasingly more unaffordable.

We are still a couple of months from the election, but a wave of change is rising because of dissatisfaction with the President and the Republican "do nothing" Congress - NOT BECAUSE OF HATE.

Rob, nonetheless, it is true that Bush is being labeled as the "enemy" in lieu of those folks that really do want our destruction.

Critism of the president is healthy and good. But, I don't consider some of the crap espoused by US leftists to be healthy. There are tee-shirts out there boasting Bush with a bullseye at the center of his forehead. During the Republican Nat'l Convention, there was a play describing Bush's assasination which opened the same week.

Peruse the DailyKos, which US Dem leadership pays homage to these days. OVer there, Bush is worse than Bin Laden. You can find a million quotes.

And, in the meantime, we're losing focus over who the enemy is. THat's crap, and it's self destructive.

Ken, good article -- and bop over to RightWingThinking, where it's generating comments.

Again, nothing new here. The fringe Righties express their "hate" for the Dems on their blogs and the Lefties do the same on their blogs.

I don't know of a single person who would actually advocate assassinating any American President. And I enjoy friendships with people who are staunchly Democrat and Republican.

I am not sure why you think that we're losing focus on who the enemy is. Everyone knows Islamic terrorists are our enemy. However, if the American people lose focus it is because the "War on Terror" is an ill-defined war with no real end or realistic objectives. That is why we find ourselves bogged down in Iraq - because there is no plan - and it is not clear who the terrorists are in that country. Just as one indicator about how foolish our involvement in Iraq has become is the fact that the President believes that it is a good use of our military and financial resources to have American soldiers rebuilding schools and acting as a police force in a foreign land. Of course, our misadventures in Iraq are being paid for with borrowed money from the Chinese who we will pay back with interest.

Rob, I cannot remember his name but just a few months ago a liberal state legislator from New York called for the assasination of the President which generated absolutly no out rage by the left at all. The media even down played it and he eventualy explained it away as a passionate response to the war. If this had been against Clinton or even Bush 41 or any other President for that matter there would have been an out cry yet the media and the left's hatred of Bush fluffed it off like it was not worth the time. Yet it was a verbal threat to the President of the United States.

The hatred for Bush by much of the left is so obvious and is driving the agenda so completely that it has become totaly obsessive. Though I disagree with many of your points concerning the war whether Iraq or elsewhere you at least use reason based on your belief. Most on the left have lost any rational thought because of their hatred. It reminds me of many whose hatred of Johnson was so severe during the sixties because of Vietnam that even when the acted with violence in their protests they could only state their hatred of LBJ and the war as a reason and give no rational argument or state any reasonalble points as to why they were in opposition. You use reason and state you points in a manner that shows that you have thought it through and have come to a conclusion based on your perception of the issue. Many on the left use no rationality nor reason just anger and hatred for Bush and even when asked point blank why they can only express anger and hatred without any reasoning behind it. The agenda of the left from the leadership is similar though not expressing the emotional anger that many do. They cannot logically state their reasoning accept with accusations and statements that stretch the truth beyond recognition. Even when they express agreement with a Bush policy they qill in the same statement at times contradict themselves by making an accusation against the President on the very policy that they had just endorsed. Any opportunity to attack Bush is the only real agenda that theh elft has and it is based on a hatred that drives their entire process.

Give me a break Ken, do you really believe that the Left is the only one spewing hate?

Are you outraged by Ann Coulter's hate?

http://mediamatters.org/items/200607070009

Here are some others who love to hate:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200409080004

http://mediamatters.org/items/200407300002

The point is that there is plenty of hate to go around. But, it is not HATE that is driving the desire for change - it is the DIRECTION OF THE COUNTRY. Today, less than 30 percent of Americans think the country is on the right track

That is not hate, that is a recognition that leadership in Washington is lacking.

rob: "but I could point to his failure to capture bin Laden..."

The fact that we never captured Hitler never stopped us from smashing Germany, did it?

"out of control domestic discretionary spending..."

I guess congress doesn't have any blame in this, do they?

"increasing the National Debt..."

We lived thru the properous 80's and 90's, all with a National Debt. So who says we can't have prosperity and a National Debt at the same time?

"reliance on China...."

This one takes the cake. As memory serves me, wasn't it Bill Clinton who insisted on giving China MOST FAVORED NATION status? Nuff said about that....

Liberals are so easy to refute...

I don't hate the left. I just love to expose them for who they really are...liberals. They cater to every far-out, left-wing whacko, kook out there. They possess a knee-jerk reaction to everything without thinking thru the unintended consequences. Liberals are devoid in the arena of ideas. They can't debate on ideas because it would expose them for who they really are. Classic example: you'll not hear a liberal talk about "abortion". Instead, they cloud this word with "pro-choice". After all, abortion is such an ugly word, isn't it? What the democrats really need to do is change the name of their party to The Abortion Party.

Rask, it is so obvious you have no clue.

I hate to inform you of this, but al Qaeda is alive and well five years after 9/11. Also, unlike Hitler, Osama bin Laden is responsible for the worst attack on U.S. soil our history and I happen to think we could do much better in our search for bin Laden.

You are right, the Republican Congress has pushed through record domestic spending, but that is what a veto pen is for - Bush has only used it once - to stop funding for stem cell research.

When Clinton left office we were paying DOWN the National Debt and it stood at $5.7 trillion. Today it is $8.5 trillion. By far the biggest increase in American history. The debt ceiling has been raised 4 times under this president (another dubious record).

If you can read a chart you can see how much additional American debt foreigners now hold: It has gone from about $1 trillion to over $2 trillion under this President.

Your suggestion about renaming the Democratic Party as the "Abortion Party" is just plain foolish.

Pro-Choice is the appropriate term. My wife and I would never consider an abortion because of our personal moral and religious beliefs. However, I am not going to tell a pregnant woman who has other morals and religious beliefs that I know what is better for her. I am not so arrogant and I don't believe the government should be either.

By the way, Harry Reid is Pro-Life.

What do you think the Republican Party should do with Condi Rice, Lincoln Chaffee (RI), Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Gordon Smith (OR), Olympia Snowe (ME), Arlen Specter (PA), Ted Stevens (Alaska) and John Warner (VA) - all of whom are pro-choice.

rob: you remind me of what John Kerry said last election as he was campaigning thru the red states, trying to convince people that he, too, had moral values. He was asked how he felt about abortion. He said: "Personally, I'm against abortion. I think its wrong. I believe life begins at conception. And I'm pro-choice." Huh? What? Huh, huh? Come again?

If you have trouble reading and don't understand English, I cannot help you. You may want to ask one of your literate friends to explain it to you.

By the way, on Monday Bush stated that he supports over-the-counter Plan B pills (you know, the ones that can be taken 72 hours after sex to prevent a pregnancy). How do you feel about that? I am still also waiting to hear what you think about the list of pro-Choice Republicans I listed.

After having read through this posting and the comment exchange I am struck by a few things. It does not appear that there is any objectivity on either "side". The "contest" always comes down to which side "hates" the other the most(as it usually does whichever Party has the power) and as usual "We the People" get lost in the shuffle. We are continually asked to blindly follow "The Party" into whatever folly they direct. One of my personal guidelines with any political policy is to reverse the Party that suggested it and determine how the "other side" would react. A stunning political reality is that EACH side belives that "truth" or any sound idea could not possibly originate from their opposition. I wonder what would happen if legislative proposals had to be submitted in an annonomous fashion?

There is no question that a movement exists that wishes to do harm to America and its citizens. The real question is what to do about it. Our struggle is against an idea. It's against an enemy without a homeland. To constantly speak of fighting until we "win" is in truth to speak of an eternal state of War. The battle of "good" versus "evil" has existed throughout human history. I would like an honest statement of exactly what would determine "winning" this War. It appears that the only way for America to be "safe" is to literally kill EVERY single person on the planet that wishes us harm. Is THAT the plan? If not, Americans will NEVER be safe. If that is the reality then let's get on with it! I am also weary of hearing this Administration (and "leaders" from both parties) tell us that the security of America and its citizens IS the top priority and yet our borders and ports HAVE NOT been secured even FIVE YEARS after we were attacked! That fundamental step has not happened and THERE IS NO EXCUSE (only mumbling and side-stepping from Washington, rather than the fact that everyone is giving in to business interests and potential voting blocks. Everyone from both parties should be ashamed about this and until our homeland security is taken seriously enough to take real action it becomes increasingly harder to accept the "imminent threat" idea. The American people need to stop being "controlled" by both sides of the aisle and demand not only solutions but the actual, unvarnished TRUTH.
