PRESIDENT BUSH NOW CONDEMNED FOR NON - ACTION WITH N. KOREA

No matter what he does, how he says it, why he directs it, or who he assigns the issue to, the left and the liberal media find some way to condemn, ridicule and accuse the President of being wrong. The latest involves the missile launches by North Korea. The President has taken an attitude of working with other nations to find a diplomatic response and solution to Kim Jong IL's latest whining. He as well as many realize that Kim Jong is using his military and especially the launch of the missiles to blackmail the world into doing what they have done in the past, giving into this whining dictator who fully realizes that if he chose to actually follow his threats with military action it would end in the destruction of his country by The United States and those, (who are in the majority by the way), who side with the U.S. in condemnation against North Korea. So how do some on the left and the liberal media respond to Bush's diplomatic reaction ? Story after story and interview after interview now attempt to portray him as a weak leader who not longer follows, "cowboy diplomacy." This Cowboy idea stems from a statement that the President made soon after the 9/11 attacks when asked about finding those responsible for the attacks and his response was, "wanted dead or alive, " which appears in numerous cowboy movies. Since that statement in every action that the President has taken in the War on Terror he has been shown by the press as a cowboy politician as an attempt by the press to insult Bush and make him look as if he shoots first and asks questions later. Of course this has not been the diplomatic style of the administration but now that Bush is following a more diplomatic route with North Korea the same press and opposition who condemned him for taking forceful action after 9/11 and for invading Iraq now condemn him for NOT being militarily forceful with North Korea. Personally as I have stated though the military option should remain on the table if Kim Jong takes this situation to the next level right now using diplomacy is the right course. I do not think that The United Nations is the answer nor do I believe that anything will come out of the U.N. to remotly help with North Korea. The United States and those who side against Kim Jong will have to take action outside of the U.N. whether it is financial or military isolation etc. But for the liberal media and critics on the left to now accuse Bush of being weak because he is not attacking North Korea is ridiculous. These very same people would out right condemn Bush as a warmonger and murderer if he were to take full military action against North Korea and will if military action becomes necessary. The hypocricy is disgusting. No matter what he does he is wrong. No matter how he does it he is wrong. When he is proven right as he has been time and again he never recieves the credit just further condemnation. There is no satisfying the press and many on the left and that is one of many reasons that Bush has and always will follow his principles and not the polls.

With the liberals, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't. They are poison. Thank God for the Republican Party.

Even if your basic premise that Bush is being unfairly criticized is correct (which I do not agree with) is largely immaterial. We still have a problem and we are not going to do anything without the agreement of the Chinese. That is their part of the world and NK is their trading partner.

What is interesting is the friction between Japan and China on the subject. In fact, Japan has been much more critical and outspoken about the subject than Bush. The Japanese are talking about pre-emptive strikes - Bush is insisting on calm and diplomacy.

I don't know if the UN is going to offer anything, but I do know the U.S. will not do anything without China's approval. We are much too indebted to them to not care what they think and want. They could literally destroy the U.S. economy overnight as I said in an earlier comment to one of your earlier postings.

I agree that the Chicoms are a key player in this North Korea mess but it also seems that if other countries who believe that a strong stance against Kin Jong is necessary,(ie blockade and freezing financial assets, stopping all air traffic etc.) that the Chicoms because of world pressure would have to fall in line against North Korea. Especially if Kim Jong takes his lunacy to the next level.

Any move to further isolate North Korea will have to come outside of the U.N. This corrupt organization has become completely useless in all aspects of world affairs. Even if they were to pass a resolution against Kim Jong it would have not more teeth than the paper it is written on. Any U.N. enforcement has come from the U.S. so why bother with the U.N. ? Gather the countries together like the U.S., Japan, Great Britain, etc. who will work to shut down North Korea and if Kim Jong take this to the next level then deal with it accordingly.

Either way the left and the media will unfairly critisize Bush because in their eyes he does nothing right and everything is used as a political football to lash out against the President.

Cowboy it up for all I care! I think it was the Weekly Standard that made a list of all the “cowboy” variations they (the media) used with Reagan. I’d say the MSM is actually just complimenting the President without realizing it when they call him a cowboy.

As for the UN. They are like the parents that live in some false utopia believing their daughter will never have sex until she is married and their son will never have a drink in college. Sure that would be great, but it is so far from reality it is just silly. The UN wants “peace in the world.” That is what we all want! The difference is that we realize sometimes that peace is gained through talking but, unfortunately, other times it is gained through a period of violence known as war.

Rob, if you want to insist that China really runs America that is sad. Most of us believe that we control our own destiny as a country. I have no idea what would REALLY happen to our economy, but quite frankly I think a crash is acceptable if it is caused by ending the chance that a lunatic might start shooting off chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons. Or selling such weapons to terrorists that would use them… well, who knows where or when!

I don't believe China runs this country - they just own a significant portion of our national debt ($323 billion) and enjoy a $115 billion annual trade surplus with us. In other words they provide us with a whole lot of consumer products and let us borrow money to buy them. Without China funding our debt the U.S. economy would tank. Of course we have to pay them back with interest but Bush will let other presidents worry about that problem.

Of course, China enjoys the benefits of this arrangement also, just as a credit card company enjoys the benefits of having people carry debt, so they are not going to just cut us off. But to think that they do not have significant influence over our policies is naive.

If you think we are going to do anything to NK without Chinese approval, or at least assurances that they accept our decision (not necessarily approve), you are simply dreaming.
