RUMSFELD SAYS, "NO !"

Out of the thousands of commanders who have served in the military since Donald Rumsfeld was appointed Secretary of Defense, six have come out in disagreement with him and are calling for his resignation. To this both the President and Rumsfeld have answered, "NO." President Bush today stated that he has heard the calls and reads the headlines and that Don Rumsfeld has done a, "fine, " job and the decision is his and keeping Rumsfeld is in the best interest of the military and the country. Amazingly when the media and the critics from the left realized that this attack by six Generals was not going to succeeding in Rumsfeld's resignation and the President was expressing support for the Secretary the focus shifted from Rumsfeld bashing back to Bush bashing over the handling of the war. Dissenting within the ranks is not unusual toward civilian leadership by military personnel. Lincoln had McClellan, Truman had Macarthur, Johnson had Westmorland, just to name a few. Additionally there have been several prominent Generals including the recently retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Richard Myers who have come out defending Rumsfeld and the policies that he as Secretary of Defense implemented. Meyers actually stated that when it came down to military action or strategy that Rumsfeld always yielded to the advice of his commanders. The six who have come out against Rumsfeld sound more like disgruntled soldiers rather than the last word. Of course the left and the liberal media have jumped on this as proof that Rumsfeld and the war are failures. Yet the vast majority of commanders and troops will tell anyone just the opposite. Another interesting aspect of this attack by the disgruntled Generals is all are division or brigade commanders. Those who have served in higher positions such as Chairman, deputy commander for United States Central Command General Michael DeLong and Central Commander Tommy Franks who would have dealt directly with Rumsfeld all speak favorably of the Secretary and the policy. As in all war situations mistakes are made and learned from. This war is no exception. Yet again according to the higher ranking commanders and those in the field whether field commanders or GI's, progress is being made and moral is extremely high. Of course only the dissenting makes the news and never the progress or the accomplishments. Thankfully those who make the decisions do not react or base their decision on the defeatist liberals or the media!

Wow, I didn't realize RA was an O'Reilly wannabe.

Yeah, you are right, the heads of the 1st Armored Division, 82 Airborne, and CENTCOM, as well as the former Operations officer for the Joint Chiefs of Staff have little credibility. I suspect there will be more Generals who enter the fray the longer the fiasco in Iraq goes on.

Rummy should have been removed after Abu Ghraib, but Bush is entitled to keep on whoever he wants. Besides Rummy is always right:

Rummy was right to push General Shinseki out when he said it would take several hundred thousand troops to pacify the country before we invaded.

He was right that the cost of the war would be minimal and would be paid for by Iraqi oil reveneues.

He was right about us being greeted as liberators.

He was smart to allow the Iraqi army to be disbanded and allowed to take their weapons home with them.

His plan to secure all of the weapons caches worked out well.

Our troops didn't really need adequate armor and he recognized the insurgency early and has stopped it in its tracks.

He has done a great job training the Iraqis so that "as they stand up we can stand down."

Oh wait a minute, it seems that Rummy has been wrong about virtually everything. But, Bush has given his "heckuva job" vote of approval and is probably shining up some presidential medals to award to Rummy.

This is a neat game huh, I posted a comment yesterday and it magically disappears. donny dumbsfeld is one of the reasons you yanks earned the well deserved tag of naziesque orwellian roveianlly genocidal americana. Fascists like rove and pearle and wolfowitz are more great examples. Lets not forget slimey tom delay, racist redneck trent lott and the rest of the evil clowns in control of america. You are no democracy but it is a nice illusion you choose to believe. Being able to choose which set of lies you want to believe to formulate your voting opinion is not a democracy. Democracy is not based on the number of and intensity of lies you can make the public believe. Generation after generation has been fed the same load of lies and reading this blog is a huge indicator of america's effective propaganda. The latest truth is there are 164 centrifuges and some of them are broken and you claim there is 50,000 and the Iranians can make a bomb in 16 days. It really is sad to see the desperation of so many lies. You evil yanks proceed to lose the economic battle to China and India and you better learn now how to swallow your ego. The idea is to compete with the world in free trade and not to be evil and kill off anybody on the planet who seems different than you. You really are sick freaks. I cannot come down on you hard enough. You make hitler and goebbels and the nazis look like kindegardeners and you're proud of it.

Rob,
I hated dealing with Clinton's SECDEFs, but I would never be pulling this sort of crap. I wonder if any of the 6 might just decide to "run for president."

I doubt they will run for President, but I suspect that we will see more generals in coming weeks because Iraq is such a disaster and there is no plan, even today, except to hope that things get better.

From what I have read about Zinni and Batiste the men under their command would follow them into Hell if asked. Somehow, I don't think Rumsfeld commands the same level of respect.

We have differing opinions, but the great part about a discussion like this is that time will show who is right.

Will more generals come out against Rumsfeld? Will he demonstrate even more incompetence? Will things turn around? Time will tell.

We don't choose Secretaries of Defense by taking a poll of retired generals any more than we choose a President by taking opinion polls.

Six or seven generals out of THOUSANDS?

Who cares!

When Rummy was asked about the controversy at his weekly briefing he had an excellent answer. I printed it in full:

http://mikesamerica.blogspot.com/#114542687615041638

You'll notice that 3/4's of those retired generals are ARMY. Wonder why? See Rumsfeld's remarks.

I've been following national security issues since the Vietnam War (yes, I am THAT old). I can say without hesitation that Donald Rumsfeld is the absolute best Secretary of Defense in my lifetime.

The job he is doing at the Pentagon is nothing short of a modern miracle.

And as far as competance goes, perhaps Rob would prefer to return to the Clinton era when we gutted the military and completely ignored the real and growing dangers that the adults are currently dealing with.

Hey mike nice to meet such a brain dead yank as to have claimed rumsfeld was the best secretary of defence since the vietnam war. OH wow thats special you've been carefully following the details of every secretary of defence for roughly the last forty years and this is your astute conclusion. rumsfeld is a mass murderer who fabricated reasons to kill. donald r dumsfeld and mike are typical of the problems the billions of people that have to share the planet face. Morons who want to fight armageddon in the window of the next 2 years because after that america hasn't got a chance. I consider myself a Christian and in true ultra neo conservative philosophy I believe the world would be a much better place if GOD almighty pitched an asteroid at Kansas and gave america the butt plug it deserves. The world is going to be a better place without the naziesquely orwellian roveianlly genocidal plutocratict fascist satan worshipping ultra neo conservative murderous yanks thumping the bible as they pretend to be GOD loving Christians. bye bye, come on GOD throw the heat.

He has been wrong on virtually everything in Iraq. No response to all of the failures I cited, just name-calling and "Let's blame Clinton." Typical of apologists for Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Condi. Time will tell, there is no doubt about it.

If Iraq turns around during Rumsfeld's tenure, I will give him credit. But, if it doesn't I would expect that being reasonable and thoughtful guys, you would admit that he is an idiot. Let's give him three more years and see what happens.
