CHENEY, CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER, HUNG, DRAWN AND QUATERED, HAVING HIS NAILS RIPPED OUT AND SPANKED - COME ON PRESS, GET REAL !

Over the weekend Vice President Dick Cheney was Quail hunting with a long time friend in Texas when a common accident with those who bird hunt in tall grass happened; Cheney's friend was peppered by bird shot from Cheney's shotgun. The gist of the story is that the friend went to pick up Quail that he had shot and did not announce his return to the area Cheney was in and when the VP fired at his own prey the friend was in the line of fire. Anyone who has ever been bird hunting is familiar with this type of accident and many have been the recipient of bird shot which I might add is considerably smaller than a BB. Now the lunacy steps in . Through out the day the press has all but accused the Vice President of premeditated murder especially when they grilled White House spokesman Scott McClellan. Asking idiotic questions such as, "will the Vice President resign ?" or "are there any criminal charges pending ?" or ,"has the Vice President taken hunting safety classes ?" Then the press attempted to accuse the VP of withholding information from the press because he, as any good friend would do, chose to first seek medical attention for his wounded friend rather than alert the press corps ! Personally I think this is the biggest gripe that the lunatics in the Washington Press Corps have because of this accident; they were not alerted first ! This moronic attempt by the press to create a scandal from this is yet another example of an out of control press with a political agenda designed to jump on anything that they in their puny minds believe will ultimately take down the Bush Presidency. On a brighter note Cheney's friend is doing fine and so is the Vice President though I am sure as anyone who has had this happen while Quail hunting feels terrible for his friend. Maybe the next press attempted scandal will happen in Crawford, Texas while the Bush's are horse back riding, let's see, the President's horse throws a shoe while in full gallop. The momentum of the shoe hits Mrs. Bush's horse in the head causing the horse to throw the First Lady bumping her head on the ground as she falls. She then is rushed to a hospital and pronounced in good health except for a slight headache and the press grills Scott McClellan asking if the President will be charged with spousal and animal abuse, then impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors. Oh the, "glory, " of a free press run amok!

Premeditated murder? What are you talking about? I don't understand the premise of your post this morning. I read the transcript of the McClellan's Press Conference and he himself said he would have made the information known earlier but it was the VP's call. Unlike you, I think the fact that the VP shot a man is actually newsworthy and details should be made known. Hunting accidents happen - why shouldn't the American public learn about the incident?

Looks like the injury is more serious than initially indicated. Too bad. But I suppose this is not newsworthy to you.

My premise was sarcasm about the ridiculous over reaction by the press for this accident attempting to create a scandal. They have continued today with this story topping most news reports. The guy from NBC was especially bone headed and asking extremely stupid questions! As for the heart attack I haven't been on line before now therefore could not respond. Yes the situation was more serious for Cheney's friend and I pray for a full recovery but the press is still making this sound as if it is a major White House scandal. A sad accident that could have happened to anyone yet the press is looking for a smoking gun, (no pun intended), where there is not one.

Ken, how do you know Cheney had not been drinking before he shot Mr. Whittington? I'm not saying that happened, but the fact is the shooting was covered up for hours. The VP was not interviewed by local authorities, who were in fact turned away on Saturday evening.

The VP of the United States of America shot a man and there is no information about it? If you saw the comments of Novak, McClellan, Marlin Fitzwater, and Ari Fleischer they all questioned why info was withheld.

I want to know, Rob...

What would all the left have done if VPOTUS had come out of the hospital Saturday evening to address the press?

Would they have accepted it was an accident? I am betting the stories would be how "bad it must've been if this administration DIDN'T attempt a cover-up." I don't understand.

Have you seen the comments on the left? Is he resigning? He was Drinking. He meant to. If you want to take the 2nd-3rd hand accounts of Ari and others I would have to say that put all the left comments up there. For what they are, not this BS "journalism."

I am not saying there should've been a cover-up, well in my business (never-mind), but what really would the American public have gained from finding out 1 hour as opposed to 24 later?

Was it a public safety issue? (Go ahead, make a joke but then answer the question.)

Personally I think it was a private matter, that was an accident. I don't think it has any real impact on the nation. The only reason it is a story is thanks to the rats called the WH Press Corps.

The public was not in danger, VPOTUS never was. I just don't see the story especially when many other stories could use resources.

MDconservative are you for real? Look at what Republicans are saying about the way it was handled.

The VP shot a man in the face. He does not need to call a press conference that minute, but it is appropriate to let the President know and allow the White House press office to inform the American people.

Ok, how long should he have to give a press conference? I would say his interview should clear much of this up, but it won't.

The only reason being it was on FOX News.

Like I said, I don't care if he gives a press conference - but I do think he had a responsibility to be forthright with the American people in a timely manner. He wasn't.

Rob,
What is timely? I mean the story was out not that much more than 12 hours.

What is timely in your mind? Is this a reality show? The Cheney Show that just has live cameras follow him 24/7?

This is insane. All I want to know is what number of minutes, or seconds, is timely?

Just read what McClellan, Fitzwater, and Fleischer have said about the mishandling of the info. Save your breath on trying to convince me.

The VP got special treatment and tried to manage the story rather than just inform the American people. That's my position - let it go.

Rob,
why can't you answer a simple question?

What is timely?

I am done trying to convince you, but if you could give a tip to the press office in the WH, what would you reommend? How long?

A couple of hours. That would have been appropriate as Scott McClellan, Marlin Fitzwater, and Ari Fleischer have all implied by their comments. Do you know who these folks are?

A simple call to the White House press office would have taken him 5 minutes tops and they could have handled it. He chose not to communicate with Bush and the White House. It took a call from Rove to Katherine Armstrong to get the story.

The White House Press Office doesn't need me to convince them - they already agree with me. You shot yourself in the foot with your last comment. But I guess it is better than having Cheney shoot you in the face - which wouldn't really be a story according to you.
