YoU cAn'T mAkE tHiS sTuFf Up - HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — An 11-year-old Huntsville boy gets high marks in storytelling after staging a hoax to cover up his bad grades. Police say the boy faked his kidnapping Friday to avoid bringing home a bad report card, saying that a man with a pistol snatched him after he left Ed White Middle School.


The boy said the man forced him into a "beat-up car" and threatened to kill him. The student said he escaped by jumping out of the car but wasn't able to grab his bookbag, which contained the report card. He ran to his grandparents' house and later confessed to lying. His grandfather called police to apologize. Sgt. Mark Roberts said police were suspicious that the boy was able to "escape" with his band instrument, but not his bookbag.

YoU cAn'T mAkE tHiS sTuFf Up - A New York man is donating his 320th pint of blood this week, making him one of two people in the U.S. who has given 40 gallons. Seventy-five-year-old Al Fischer of Massapequa plans to reach the milestone Tuesday, 58 years after he started giving blood.


According to a New York Blood Center official, only 83-year-old Maurice Wood has donated more blood than Fischer. Wood is a retired railroad inspector from St. Louis. Fischer, a print shop operator, donates blood about six times a year. He says he and Wood are engaged in a friendly rivalry and last spoke to each other a few months ago. Long Island Blood Services executive director Harvey Schaffler says Fischer has helped almost 1,000 people.

YoU cAn'T mAkE tHiS sTuFf Up - Transit riders in Honolulu better clean up their act.The City Council is considering a bill that will make it illegal to "bring onto transit property odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system, whether such odors arise from one's person, clothes, articles, accompanying animal or any other source."


Councilman Rod Tam, a co-sponsor of the bill, explained why it is needed: "As we become more inundated with people from all over the world, their way of taking care of their health is different. Some people, quite frankly, do not take a bath every day and therefore they may be offensive in terms of their odor."

There are existing city laws and rules covering passenger behavior on city buses. But council members Tam and Nestor Garcia, the introducers of the bill, thought it was important for the city to consider passenger behavior as Honolulu prepares to build its first commuter rail line.
