HUCKABEE AND CLINTON - THE MIRROR IMAGE
Today is Primary Day in South Carolina and I have already cast my vote for Fred Thompson. This post though is to provide some rather interesting parallels between Mike Huckabee and another Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton.
Both were born in Hope, Arkansas to families that to say the least had, "humble beginnings." Both attempt to be, "cool, " appearing in public during campaigns playing their chosen musical instruments, Huckabee the bass guitar and Clinton the saxophone.
Both raised taxes in Arkansas. The highest tax increase in State history was under Bill Clinton. That is until Mike Huckabee surpassed Clinton by a rather wide margin. Both were politically associated as Lt. Governor and as Governor with Jim Guy Tucker of Arkansas who left the Governors office because of being indicted for criminal activity involved with Whitewater.
Tucker became Governor after Clinton and Huckabee followed Tucker after his resignation since he was Lt. Governor. Both had Dick Morris as a political advisor. Clinton while Governor and President, Huckabee while Governor.
So as you can see there are several comparisons between both Arkansas boys who have made a run for the Presidency and been Governor of Arkansas. Just one more thing, I have family that live in Arkansas and the people of that State have had the same comment about both Huckabee and Clinton. The people of Arkansas were glad to see both run for President because it meant they were no longer involved in Arkansas politics.
Both claimed to be well liked in Arkansas and touted their re-election but the people of Arkansas were glad to see both go!

It's interesting that the Clintons, who are apparently Teflon coated from a legal perspective, walked away unscathed from Whitewater while others went to prison or were compelled to step down from public office.
The Clintons remind me, for some reason, of an early 1970s film called Hammersmith Is Out.
It opens with an orderly visiting a straight-jacketed Hammersmith in his padded cell, reading him a message that the most recent child he's sired is a girl. Eyes blazing, Hammersmith stands up, rips off his straight jacket, stares into the orderly's eyes and says, "Get me out of here and I'll make you rich!"
You can guess (Pleased to meet you, hope you guessed my name...) who Hammersmith is. MY guess is that the Clintons met him early on, and that they'll be paying the bill for his services in short order.
Back from tangent, I must say that the only homogenously conservative candidate in the running is Fred, and I'll also be voting for him in the primaries, Huckleberry Hound and the rest of the lot be damned!

Woooooooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooo Ken!!
I have a good feeling about today!
GO FRED GO !!!!!!
go Fred, I hope y'all make the right choices. My primary isn't until early may
Ken,
Great post, and perfect comparison. Maybe they are 'related' some how? ha!
I have relatives in Arkansas too and they hated Bill. They are democrats too! They said the same thing.. that they were glad that Bill was running for Prez because that means he wouldn't be there any more.
Why does it matter? Neither are going to be President (again for Clinton). Nor is Fred to that matter. All you can do is keep bashing old news. Huckabee can't play outside the bible belt where he might find people dumb enough to vote for him. The independents that elected GWB will never go for him. The Republicans are in so much trouble right now. What a lot of losers for candidates.
My father-in-law is a huge Huckabee fan, (because of the Christian values), which I have no problem with Im a good Christian, however what I can't make him understand, is that their are few differences as far as finacial politics go between him and Hillary Clinton. It is driving me crazy. He started out supporting Fred, but has lost faith, and has been suckered by the Huckabee propaganda. In my opinion, I find it very dishonest for him to hide behinde the Holy Book. Maybe Im reading too much into that, does anyone else feel the same way I do ? I just feel that had the Democraps, would love to have Huckabee in the Whitehouse, if they had to have a Republican.
Anonymous,
You are doing the same thing alot of other Liberal nitwits are doing.
You are confusing "The Republicans are a mess and are falling completely apart", and "The Republican party is happy will all our candidates (With the exception of Ron Paul) and having difficulty choosing one in particular."
See that's the thing with you Liberals, you either get half the story or you half ass what part of the story you got!
Great Post Ken :-)
Give 'im hell, Marie!

noah,
I think Democrats would love to run against Huckabee, because they think he'd be a pushover to lose the general election. The last thing the secularists in the Democratic Party want, is another evangelical in the White House.
The WordSmith from Nantucket,
True the Dem's would not want to have someone with Huckabees moral values, howerver as looney as the left wing nuts jobs are, I think they would look past that fact, and they look more at Huckabee's tax record, spending habits, and immigration policies. But I agree I think Huckabee would be a push over for them. With the Dems record, I dont think they would mind selling out one thing to get the other stuff in return.
Marie,

You are missing the bigger picture in your conservative world. I am an independent, not a liberal. What I see is the republicans trying so hard to appeal to the right that the middle will never vote for them. How did GWB win? He played the compassionate conservative line (it was a lie, but it worked). The telling story is not who is ahead in either party right now, but the total numbers voting in each election and how many are voting in the democratic primaries versus the republican. The trend has the republican national party scared stiff. The republican party should be looking for someone who can appeal to the middle or they are going to give the election to democrats in November.
If you want to let the Democrats win easily let Huckabee be your candidate. Being from Utah I dislike Romney just from watching him in action. He is a jerk personally and it will come out under stress. He has flip-flopped so much he is as bad as Hillary.
But who do the Republicans have that can appeal to the center when the dust settles?
As I said "the republicans have a lot of losers as candidates". Who ever wins the nomination will have won the battle, but most likely lose the war big time in November.
From the center the closest contest I see is Obama versus McCain. Both can still appeal to the center, the others are too far to the right or left.
