NY TIMES LEAK REPORT BLASTED

Two very distinct accusations have emerged toward the NY Times concerning their reporting of the financial surveillance program despite the insistence by the Bush administration to kill the story. First the President, (http://www.theconservativevoice.com/ap/article.html?mi=D8IFVIV00&apc=9008 ), blasted the leak and then the Times for printing the story. President Bush sited the damage that it has done to intelligence gathering and the security of the nation stating that, "Congress was briefed and what we did was fully authorized under the law," and that, "The disclosure of this program is disgraceful." Another even harsher criticism of the Times came from Representative Peter King, (R NY -http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50784) . There have been a number of times in the past that I have disagreed with King because of his stance on certain issues but this time I believe that King has hit the nail on the head as he calls for an investigation of the NY Times for treason. "We're at war, and for the Times to release information about secret operations and methods is treasonous," King told the Associated Press. King, the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee stated that he was contacting the Attorney General to, "begin an investigation and prosecution of the New York Times - the reporters, the editors and the publisher." My concern now is whether a deaf ear will be turned toward this act by the NY Times as has been the practice in the past. I stated yesterday in the Sunday Commentary that I believed that an investigation will take place and will meander through whether the program was legal or not as happened with the NSA program and add today that it will be used by the Democrats for a political spotlight in an election year while fully knowing that the program is legal and that the Congress was briefed just as happened in the NSA terrorist surveillance program. Senator Arlen Spector the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee has already indicated that he favors a more wait and see attitudee to investigating the Times for treason showing his usual weak backbone. I hope the Attorney General takes a much harder stand. This time the investigation demands to center around a criminal act of treason for revealing state secrets both by the Times and a deeper investigation to discover who has been leaking this vital intelligence information to the press with criminal prosecution for both the leaker and the responsible parties at the Times. It is time for this liberal rag to pay the consequences for the damage that the paper, its reporters, editors and publisher have caused while following their liberal political agenda with the country and our security suffering for their acts. We are at war and this liberal rag has a policy of sensationalized headlines, promoting their liberal agenda and hindering the War on Terror all for an opportunity to play Woodward and Bernsteinn, (the Watergate reporters), and bring down a President. Mr. Attorney General now is the time to end this treasonous and destructive practice of the New York Times!

You mention Senator Specter. Yes he is being weak, but yesterday he hinted at the fact that there is nothing wrong with this program. With the NSA story, he nearly jumped out of his skin in judging it illegal. With this program he was quite sedated. If that is the case there must be NOTHING wrong with it.

I didn’t need proof, but if there was even a 1 in a million chance that it was illegal Specter would’ve been demanding hearings... declaring it a blatant violation of the Constitution, even though he himself was not briefed on it. The same happened with the NSA, he didn’t know anything about the program… the fact that the appropriate members of congress were briefed didn’t matter.

He wasn’t and wanted to act like a whining democrat. Once again, this time the Senator did not go nuts, proving this cannot possibly be an issue. Except for the fact that the program is now blown. Thanks Times!

This is the reason that this needs to be investigated by the Justice dept for treason. Spector doesn't have the backbone and even their investigation would turn into a political spotlight that the libs would use for sound bites and political rhetoric on the, "culture of corruption." This leaking and blowing of intell programs has to stop and investigating this one for treason would make great strides into plugging the leak and the Times.

You know, I bet terrorists had no idea, not a clue, that we would try to monitor phone calls into and out of the US. Or financial transactions. Yeah, they'd never have thought of that.

However, we have a conservative president and congress. We should therefore all know full well that there isn't anything we do that the government doesn't have the right to look into. They don't have to abide by laws that are supposed to govern how its done, because after all, WE'RE AT WAR. With an idea. Indefinitely. So... sorry, America. You should have known, and if you expect the press to be anything but cheerleaders for the President, to actually report information that someone in the government has given to them at great risk because they feel that something is wrong, to actually do their job, well then...someone will come around to pick you up after the free press has been dismantled.

There has been NO allegation that any of this program is illegal, from Specter… not even the NYT! It was however classified, so spare us this whistleblower crap. They put a classified program on page 1. The end, solely to do damage to the US. You may not like it but the President was elected, to do many things… the most important to defend the US from threats. To create programs like this one. If the President wanted to disclose it, that is his right.

Some staff member, or member in the intelligence community was not elected to make such decisions. Nor was the NYT, LAT, or WSJ.

It is his right to use programs like this. But it is his responsibility to use them according to the laws that govern them, and if he doesn't, he should expect to be called out on it. That is what the press does. He should know that. So if anyone is responsible for compromising these programs, it is George W. Bush.
