HISTORICAL QUOTE OF THE WEEK - "Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other." ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Monday, June 26, 2006

Representative John Murtha, (D PA), who has been in the news and caused a great deal of disgust because of his lies and false charges concerning out troops the war and lately the accusation that the Pentagon was covering of the Haditha incident and stating that troops were guilty before the investigation was complete has crossed yet another line. Murtha has now stated the the United States presence in Iraq is a greater threat to world peace then the Nuclear confrontation in Iran and the possibility of a missile launch in Korea. In Murtha's feeble liberal mind the nation that he was elected to serve and in whom he pledged allegiance as a United States Marine now is the greatest threat on the planet to world peace. Murtha deserves at the least censure for this as well as his other statements but especially in accusing his own country for destabalizing the world and counter to peace of the same. He is a disgrace to the office that he serves and a disgrace to the uniform that he once wore. Murtha with his liberal disgusting rhetoric is betraying the constituents that elected him to office and has become an embarrassment to the Pennsylvania 12th district for which he represents. I have placed a phone call and e-mail both to my Representative Henry Brown and the Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert calling for the censure of John Murtha. I urge each of you to contact your Representative and the Speaker calling for the same. Murtha's mouth must be shut and censure would take him out of the spotlight because through censure he will lose many of his privileges and responsibilities as a Congressman. Call and e-mail today!

I've already done that, but I'm not holding my breath. It seems anyone can get away with just about anything these days. Murtha is a traitor, and freedom of speech has become an excuse for just about everything.

Used to be a crime to turn against this country during a time of war. Evidently that's no longer the case.

So you want to criminalize speaking out against the war? I absolutely agree with him that Bush's war has destabalized the region and has reduced our ability to deal with genuine threats like North Korea or Iran. So I guess that makes me a traitor, right? So I should be arrested? You seek to censure him for not breaking any law that I know of (other than the new law that says you may not disagree with the President), and yet you scold Russ Feingold for wanting to censure the President for actually breaking actual laws. These are conservative values in plain view. Congratulations. Your president is in full agreement with you. His poll numbers reflect it.

Hey, Gayle, it also used to be a crime to belong to a union, or for a black man to walk thru a hotel lobby, or for women to buy contraception, etc etc etc. Ah, the good ol' days, huh?

Doesn't it stink when people don't think like you do? Don't you just wish you could throw 'em all in jail? Hey, let me know when the next Conservative Youth rally is, so I can sign my kids up. 'Remember, kids, it's OK to turn in your parents. If they disagree with the president, that really means that they don't love you...'

You guys are seriously making it easier and easier for people to equate conservatism with fascism. Seriously. No, really.

No, he can talk out against the war as much as he wants. It is the “cold blooded killer”, “the army is broken”, and saying that America is worse than NK and Iran. Those are the reasons we are pissed. I am pissed at him in my gut, but that does not warrant a censure. The other stuff does (maybe more, continue reading).

We are in the middle of fighting and he is out doing his best to f things up. Well I agree with a very fine man, let me know if you are going to call him a “racist” too.

Congressman: CHECK
Willfully: CHECK
Wartime: CHECK
Damage morale: CHECK
Undermine military: CHECK

Well he fits all the roles… Don’t take your argument up with us, take it up with Lincoln!

When you disagree with a liberal you are a facist, racist or mean spirited. So to answer your question MD, Vern would condemn Lincoln for the same because he obviously disagreed with Vern and with liberals both in historical content as referenced to today's issues and with those who existed in his day. Remember liberals wanted to keep slavery and negotiate peace to end the Civil War thus keeping two countries rather than preserving the Union which Lincoln did.

You know, I guess I might disagree with Lincoln about that. Although I don't necessarily equate speaking with "taking action".

Big deal. I think JFK was one of our greatest presidents. I can guarantee you I can find things to disagree with him about. Likewise any other president I hold in high regard. Listen, I have nothing bu praise for Bush's decision to create the largest marine refuge in the world just recently. Love it.

But this is a matter of the principle of free speech, which you feel is subordinate to falling in lockstep with this administrations misadventures. Sorry, but to quote another great man:

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Ben Franklin

And the liberals wanting slavery? Why, because they were Southern Democrats? Please, that doesn't even merit a serious response.

You don’t merit a serious response, but we tend to give you one.

His “actions” are his constant appearances and speeches that invite a viewpoint negative for the country and the military. And if you contend that speaking is different than action, I guess you were all for the “Anti-Flag burning Amendment” correct?

Cause don't pull any crap and try to argue that burning a tangible object is speech! Shame it lost, but we are glad to know it had YOUR support!

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”

People encouraging soldiers to stop fighting and go hold up in churches or go to Canada, to benefit the country? Or how about the Times, actually all papers keeping their mouths shut about classified material that should not be in their hands anyway.

Stupid liberals would sue me if I got a piece of mail and read it without my name on it and released that letter to the media, none of the information that these papers is divulging to the world has their names on it. I want them and the primary leakers held accountable.

Vern in response to your, Southern Democrats response about liberals wanting slavery and it not meriting a response. The Democratic candidate in the 1864 election was General George McCllelan born in Philidelphia, PA not the south. He ran on a pro-slavery end the war platform that was planned by northern democrats since the south had no involvement in the 1864 election since they were at the time the Confederate States. Know your history before you comment my friend.

Ken, at that time, it was the Republican party that advanced the Liberal platform. Democrats, north and southNo, I don't pour over a lot of obscure details to try to dupe my readers -- but even I know that.

So, now on to reality. The reality, as it turns out, is that this issue is....ready?....a NON-ISSUE. The reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel misquoted Murtha, who was merely citing an international poll. They later ran a correction.

So now all the bloggers screaming for his head are going to issue corrections and apologies. Honest. I know they are...

I'll just wait....

Ooops. There's an unfinished sentence in there that should read: "democrats, north and south, were generally the conservative party."

5:52 PM, June 29, 2006
Blogger Vern1966 said...

Correction: Actually, northern Democrats WERE more liberal than their counterparts to the South -- that's why there was an eventual shift around the civil rights issue resulting in the mass exodus of conservatives over to the Republican party. But to say that liberals (republicans) were pro-slavery because McClellan was born in the north? It's more than a stretch -- it's a lie. This is a terribly weak string of reasoning that has absolutely nothing to do with ... well, anything. Where was G.W. born? New Haven, CT. So what? He's a republican. The Republican party used to be the liberal reform party. SO GEORGE BUSH IS A LIBERAL!

"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale & undermine the military are saboteurs & should be arrested, exiled, or hanged." - President Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln never said this. Ever. This quote is a fabrication of Dr. J. Michael Waller who first wrote it in 2003 shortly before the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth gave it life in 2004.

I have two original King & Baird pamphlets in my collection, the identical pamphlet Waller sites as his proof, "TRUTH FROM AN HONEST MAN". Lincoln never wrote anything like this ... here, or anywhere else.

How pathetic has the Republican Party become that it insults the reputation of America's finest Republican president for their political gain?
