BARACK OBAMA - 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

In an historic outcome Barack Obama has been elected as the 44th President of The United States. While as a conservative I have many misgivings and disagreements ideologically, politically and philosophically with Barack Obama, as an American I must recognize the tremendous historical significance to his election as President.

For those in our Nation who believe that this country that we love is racist or that anyone who seeks to achieve in this land cannot reach for the stars, then the election of Obama should and must put to rest those thoughts and feelings and acknowledge that this is the greatest Nation on earth. Where a man whose descendants suffered the worst atrocities in our history has achieved the highest office in our land speaks of not only the greatness of our Nation but in the equality and advancements that we have achieved that brought us to this historic moment.

I do believe that we have elected an unknown and untested person in Barack Obama and it is now up to him to prove to all of us that he is more than eloquent speeches and well phrased words. His election, I believe does not change the make up of this Nation and its still conservative nature, but rather a referendum on the failures of the Republican party in neglecting those values and principles that created what is known as the Reagan revolution and the conservative principles that made President Reagan so popular and by most historians one of the greatest Presidents in our history.

While the emotion for change elected Obama, it is now up to him to live up to the hype created by that emotion. His unknown quantity remains a very disturbing factor in his election and the words of his running mate now Vice President Elect Joe Biden haunt the celebration of history of an African Americans election with the fear of the test on the international stage that will appear within the next year to find what this unknown quantity is made of and how he handles the most powerful and taxing job and office in the world and in history.

Running a virtually flawless campaign and leading a Nation are as different as night and day. Inexperience allows for many mistakes and whether Obama has the discipline and ability to handle and avoid those mistakes presents a chilling question mark concerning his Presidency. His rhetoric that calls for reshaping the foundations of this country imply much more than just overcoming race barriers in high office. Our national sovereignty and prestige as the one and only super power does not lend itself to bowing to lesser nations or asking their permission to act on our behalf.

Will his change the world view and seemingly adoption of embracing European values and forms of government weaken this Nation and endanger our security ? As President it is his responsibility to prevent this and one must wonder from his words whether he will or whether he won't. This to adds to the unknown quantity.

One must wonder also that even with the hype, if the economy especially the mortgage collapse and the timing within the confines of the Presidential race had not happened as they did would Barack Obama even be President Elect. We may never know the answer but my opinion is that had the collapse taken place last summer or after election day, the outcome of this election would have been much different.

Now the electorate has spoken and there is a new President and whether we agree with him or not he will be the Chief Executive of our Nation. For those who agree with him it is a time of celebration and cheer. For those who disagree it is a time of disappointment. As Americans it is our responsibility whether from the right or the left to hold both he and our government accountable to we the people and to the Constitutional principles that make us free. That is the beauty and the singular wonder of this land and this Republic we love The United States of America !

Even developing nations like India score higher in terms of the Ex-president was a muslim, the prime minister is a Sikh ( both positions being held by outstanding patriots belonging to minority groups). Also, the leader of the majority party is a woman.
I doubt that Obama would have won had he not converted to Chistianity. It's sick that the world's, supposedly, most evolved society is secular only on paper.

I am thrilled and proud that my fellow country men elected Oabama .It is one step towards a more open minded society.

Ken, I don't see this as a complaining post. I see it as an upbeat post. I admire your attitude and posted much along the same lines. I guess the liberals expect us to be joyous about this! LOL!

I won't be posting gloating or rude comments. I've had enough of people who have absolutely no class. I'd never think of going to their blogs and leaving the type of comments they leave on our blogs.

Many liberals still believe that we don't like Obama because he is Black, when it has nothing whatsoever to do with race and has everything to do with character and experience, but we will never get them to believe that or to admit that they may have really screwed up. We will see what we will see. Time alone is going to tell us and there is one thing for sure: It's going to be a very interesting four years!

Ken,
Great post and great point about the Jessie Jacksons and Al Sharptons not having much to say about racism any more. I think Obama's election has put them out of business.

From what I have read most conservatives are proving what I hold dear about our party. We aren't vile, rude and we don't gloat like so many on the left do.

I don't hear anyone saying.. "Barack cheated.. Acorn!! Recount!!" When we quite possibly have a case here with major cheating in Ohio and PA, and basically everywhere. But you know what, it doesn't matter because it would take too long to figure it out and put America in a huge bind. The people spoke and this is it. Far be it from us to make them re-count as Gore did.

It is going to be an interesting four years to say the least!

It is ludicrous to think that the election of a Black man eradicates the issue of racism in America or silences those who speak out about it. Were you even WATCHING this race? Did you not see the atrocious fear-mongering tactics of the Republican party? Did you not hear the racist catcalls at the McCain rallies? Did you not view the numerous video clips on Youtube of the racist hatred spewed against Obama, with even nastier sentiments in the comments section? What about the Nazi skinheads who plotted his assassination? Do you really think that has all gone away overnight? How could you even begin to think that the color of a man's skin could simply erase years of ignorance and hatred? Sorry but it doesn't work that way.

No, Obama is not the "Magic Negro" who will erase racism in America. No one will ever be able to do that. But he is a beautiful beginning! And I am proud of the voting Americans who recognized it as well.

Hopefully, instead of snide or negative comments, people will open up thoughtful, intelligent dialogue so that we can work toward the unified free world that we all claim we want.

I don't claim that republicans exclusively are largely racists, but how does I explain why the United States has never had until now a colored president, we still do not have a non-christian president, a female president.
Even Indonesia, India, Pakistan score better than the US on this front.

It's a hoot how republicans are reacting to the election nearly the same way that democrats did the last two elections. "Cheat!" I personally think that republicans should tell themselves what they told the democrats, "You lost, you fringe extremist moonbats. Get over it!" but I have a feeling that it won't happen.

I would like to suggest to all who didn't vote for Barack Obama: It's time you began to think about how you can get along with others and work together in a racially-diverse America. The paradigm has shifted and in the new world you must try to learn to lend a hand without constantly whining, "What's in it for me?"

Ummm, our path toward socialism started when our government bailed out the savings and loan industry with taxpayer money in the 80's. Then it continued down the path bailing out the airline industry earlier this decade. They are digging the capitalism grave with the current financial industry rescue funded (again) with taxpayer dollars.

All of the industrial bailouts are "important", but are they vital? They are definitely inappropriate burdens for responsible Americans. They could have been funded with loans to the respective industries or criminal punitive fees. But for the government to take ownership of these assets is analogous to the parent who continues providing for the 25 yearold slacker alcoholic still living at home.

Hardworking Americans are sick and tired of this country's future being sold for the sake of what?

These elections were lost thanks to President Bush who does not recognize his obligation to his party or the destructive legacy that he has left his party to deal with. Thanks for nothing George.

Yesterday, November 4th 2008, citizens (and some illegal residents) participated in our unique process of the peaceful transfer of power in the government of the United States of America. I am grateful to live (and have defended for the past 21 years) a nation that does this every two and four years. It is one of the main reasons we have been and will remain the greatest nation on earth. The campaign process is a fight out among the candidates. It is supposed to be their primary effort to win the hearts and minds of the people of the United States. Since 1789 we have had this great experiment of a government that is by, for and of The People.

This election year has saddened me though. It was election for the hearts and not the minds of the people. A majority of Citizens of every race, color, creed voted not based upon rational thought but upon emotions. Whether it was pride in the first African-American candidate, or past slavery guilt for the first major party African-American candidate in our nation's history, it was most definitely not by logic.

I was watching the television last night and exit polls showed that 71% of voters believed that President-elect Obama would raise their taxes, and a significantly lower percentage believed that Senator McCain would raise their taxes. That, coupled with the exit poll data that showed the Economy was the number 1 issue on voters' minds are incongruous. History has proven that raising taxes in an economy such as the one we have today will only worsen matters. The two stances do not go hand in hand. That demonstrates that our President-elect was voted into office based upon pride among those of the same ethnic background and Caucasian guilt over slavery as the major contributing factors. No ifs, ands, or buts’ about it. Most people forget that our nation, our Republic, this great experiment in self-government, almost perished in the war fought to end slavery. Most citizens of this great country do not recognize the fact that Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines serving under the flag of the United States of America died ending slavery over 140 years ago. There is should be no quilt owed to anybody, but maybe there should be a debt of gratitude?

Another item that hard working, tax paying citizens across the fruited plain should be made aware of. If you look at the county by county electoral map of the 2008 election, something should jump right off the page at you. That is the fact that the President-elect won every major urban center and New England. Data will show that the voting populations in these areas are those that receive the most government aid. Not the self-starters, hard-working, independent minded people that reflect the views and values this great nation was founded upon. Little government, no taxation without representation, self reliance are the values our Founding Fathers held.

What tax paying citizens of the United States of America should wake up and realize we are facing almost the exact same circumstances we faced at the birth of our nation. There is, by way of apathy mostly, very little representation for the majority of tax payers because those people that actually pay taxes in this country have become a minority whose concerns are not taken seriously by our elected representatives. These elected representatives are using the revenue paid into the U.S. Treasury by tax payers to "purchase" the votes of those people who do not pay taxes. This is a slippery slope down which all Americans should fear treading. That slippery slope is one that ended mankind’s first great experimentation into Democracy, ancient Greece.

It turns out that in 1776 we traded one tyrant hundreds of miles away for hundreds of tyrants just a few miles away. A peaceful revolution is needed. One that will only be accomplished when tax payers in this country wake up and say "No More!" to our government's following a course so far away from what made this country great for over 200 years. A course correction (peaceful revolution) is needed before our ship founders in the shoal waters of liberalism and socialism. Too many countries are already there as either rotting and decaying carcasses, or vessels waiting for their citizens to find a way off.

For now all I can say to all of my fellow citizens, hold on to your wallets for the next four years. If our course correction does not happen soon, out great experiment in a representative republic will crash and founder on the shoals and we can only blame ourselves. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution are the greatest documents every produced by mankind. The apathetic lack of participation by the primary producers, job makers, and income earners of our country will doom us to the ash heap of history.

Jeez, the last anonymous person sure is a worry wart. Take off your Chicken Little suit and work for change as you see it.

The reason Obama won is simple - more Americans believe that he can lead this nation than believe John McCain can lead the nation. Cut the psycho-babble excuse-making and deal with it.

The Republican Party long strayed from its ideals which is why they screwed up the country with the big spending, deficit/debt growing ways. The American people were fed up with the Republicans and decided to go to the Dems. If the Dems screw up the Republicans will get another shot.

I'm glad you are trying to look on the bright side Ken, but as you can see from some of your commenters, the left's eagerness to play the race is undiminished.

Even without GOP control of congress and with no Bush in the White House Dems will still blame racism, or Fox News or Talk Radio or all three at the same time whenever something bad happens to Obama.

Why do people think the Civil War was only about slavery? While that was a reason, there are also many others.

Also, everyone should stop issuing blanket statements about each other. Liberals are not all alike, Conservatives are not all alike, Women are not all alike, WE ALL are not alike. It's ridiculous and you are discrediting yourself in the eyes of an educated reader when you make statements like that.

Ken, while I do not agree with 99% of your blog, you have done a commendable think by showing your true support for this nation. In the end, I think that's what we need to look at. Regardless of who was elected yesterday or who will even be elected in the future of this country, if we DIVIDE ourselves we will not be able to function.

I don't agree with the rest of his/her/it's comment.

The fact is, Racism will be the accusation whenever anyone voices any criticism of President Obama.

And there will be many criticisms.

In fact, racism may very well be Obama's excuse for proposing, signing, and implementing laws silencing any dissent. I mean, he IS a Marxist and that is what Marxists do, if history is any indication.

I don't put censorship of Conservatives past him.

OK I won't say that, but I won't discount the possibility that he did.

A caller on Mark Levin's show yesterday said she saw her husbands name on the list of registered voters at her polling place in Michigan. He isn't an American citizen. It is illegal for a non-citizen to vote. That's voter fraud, and if there is one, there are others.

Be that as it may, there probably wasn't enough voter fraud to swing the election away from McCain. It wasn't that close.

anon,

America is a very young nation. Blacks make up about 13% of the population, or somesuch. We have blacks in every occupation, at every level of government. The fact that it's only now that we have a black president, doesn't mean America's only now changed. I think it's been like this for at least the last couple of decades (that we've been ready for a black president). It's just been a matter of whether or not the "right one" came along. Obama had the right charisma and message that resonated with the American public. Conservatives that I know, have long been looking past race and would have willingly elected a black conservative Republican to high office, if he were the right man for the job. Democrats are the ones who seem fixated on the matter of skin color.

Shelby Steele had a great op-ed in the LATimes today. Look it up. It's a worthy read.

Mr. Obama wanted the job, he can have it. Soon he'll crawl back to Jeremiah Wright for spiritual guidance because after his first transitional briefing at the White House on international issues, Barry will realize he has bitten off way, way, way more than he can chew.

After our nation begins teetering on the brink, there will be a new Conservative movement in America as people realize that this sweeping new Liberal/Socialist movement was a bad thing.
