DO CONSERVATIVES REMEMBER HOW TO FIGHT ? - THE SUNDAY COMMENTARY

John McCain is going to be the Republican nominee for the 2008 Presidential bid. Hillary or Obama are two of the most liberal and Socialists Democrat candidates to run on the Democrat side of the political coin. So what is the response of many Conservatives ? Since I can't get a candidate that I agree with 100% then I just won't vote.

The best way to guarantee a Democrat in the White House in 2009 is for Conservatives to stay home because they do not totally agree with the GOP nominee. Many even believe that if we let the Democrats have the White House they will blow it so bad that in four years we will have the resurrection of another Ronald Reagan because after all, " it took four years of Carter to make Reagan."

That type of thinking is defeatist and naive. First Reagan was already a force in GOP politics when Carter was elected and his time almost came in 1976 at the GOP Convention that selected Gerald Ford. Reagan made Reagan and not Jimmy Carter and naive thinking that four bad Democrat years will bring another Reagan will only give us four devastating years of Socialist leadership that this country may never recover from.

It is this type of thinking and that of Conservatives who disagree with McCain that believe that not voting as a protest will get their point across to the GOP that leads this Conservative to believe that many Conservatives have become spoiled and forgotten just what it means to be a Conservative.

With the passing of William F. Buckley last week, I was reminded once again by tributes to the, "Father of modern Conservatism, " that being a Conservative is not only a staunch stand on moral and political principles that all of us who are Conservatives believe in but also a strong and steady fight against Liberalism.

Buckley founded National Review and several other endeavours as a means of not only talking about Conservatism but also as a means of taking the fight FOR Conservatism directly to the Liberals. Conservatism is not just a list of beliefs and principles that we all live and stand by but also a fight against the Liberal/Socialist agenda that if left unchecked will take our free Republic down a path toward European style Socialism.

President Reagan who also was a Conservative leader who believed in taking the fight directly to the Liberals not only lived his Conservative beliefs but before becoming President and throughout his Administration took the fight for Conservatism to the people and in the Halls of a Liberal Congress which brought him two landslide victories as President.

While Conservatives, this one included have many misgivings with John McCain, we must never forget that our first fight is for our beliefs against the Liberal influence in politics and on this Nation. Reagan also believed and ran his administration on the principle that if one can only get 75 or 80 percent of what one is fighting for then take it and continue to fight for the rest.

If that was what we are faced with in having John McCain as our nominee and if he is elected President then it is our Conservative activism that fights for our principles even with the GOP nominee and President. Never forget the successful fight by Conservatives against the Amnesty bill.

Conservatives have become spoiled as we have had our political principles in the fore front of American politics since the Reagan years and revived during the Gingrich Congressional revolution in the early nineties and as such for many years we did not have to fight so much against Liberals because we had a President then a Congress that was fighting on the front lines in Washington for us.

Then we got lazy and allowed the GOP leadership to drift from Conservative principles and the Republican Majority began spending like Democrats and exploded the Federal Government which goes against one of the basic Conservative beliefs of limited Government and decreased spending.

Now many Conservatives are about to do the same thing by not voting as a protest against the GOP nominee and allow the Democrats to take the White House in November. What happened to the fighting Conservative spirit ? What happened to Conservative activists who not only stood by our principles but fought FOR them no matter what ?

Even many prominent Conservatives like Ann Coulter have expressed that they will not vote for McCain and would rather see Hillary get the White House and let the Dems, "cut their own throats, " over the next four years. I for one am not willing to do that. The Socialist programs that would be passed with Hillary/Obama in the White House along with a Democrat Congress would never get reversed. Our taxes will be raised to the point that each of us will be supporting the Government more than we support our families.

Universal Health Care will become an endless reality and The United States military will be reduced to a second class power. I am not willing to see the Country that I love take that Liberal/Socialists path so this Conservative is standing up and fighting for my Conservative principles. I will vote for John McCain and when he is President will make him accountable to those same Conservative principles that he now claims are his own.

We as Conservatives cannot and MUST NOT sit this one out because we do not agree completely with the nominee. We must continue in the shoes of Buckley and Reagan and take the fight for our Conservative principles directly to the Liberals for the good of the Country and the people.

Why is it always US versus THEM!? You try to paint a picture of good versus bad or black versus white when in reality, there are very little differences between the two parties. Maybe if you spent more time outlining what it means to be a conservative and what it means to be a liberal and really get behind the philosophical differences then this blog would be worth reading. Rather, it is a diatribe of hate against a group of people who only think differently from you!! To truly become a great country, we must work together. But, I guess "working together" is too SOCIALIST for you.

By the way...why all the "fighten" words? I think I counted over two dozen references to the word "fight" in your most recent blogs on this page. It is almost as if you are trying to provoke another civil war in this country. US versus THEM has got to stop...it is pulling our country apart.

Oh please! No difference between the two parties?

Where to begin?

One party wants to make nice with our enemies and beat up our friends.

One side wants to cancel missile defense and HOPE our enemies follow suit.

I could go on and on and on but something tells me it won't sink in much with Keith.

That Obama Kool Aid might taste good, but it makes you go blind if you drink too much.

Amen Mike. Not only will the Obama Kool Aid sour on the stomach but with the people as well.

Keith, If you had ever paid one bit of attention to this blog, my Conservative beliefs have been out lined in detail time and again.'

And ther is a massive fundamental difference between Conservatives and Liberals. That is why I will continue to fight for the principles I believe in and not just sit back and watch this nation decline into Socialism under liberal control.

Fighting for what one believes in does not always mean taking up a gun and causing, "civil war." But it does mean a willingness to not only take a stand in ones principles but also puttin actions to those same principles and, "fighting," for them.

We can get along and still completely disagree with one another on what is right for this country. The problem with liberals is that anyone who stands up as a Conservative and fights for our principles is always labled as making hate speech and causing strife for the nation.

Yet you liberals are always, "allowed, " to say what you wish, attack how you wish and character assasinate who you wish and it is considered freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech is for all not just the liberal agenda!

Why is it always US versus THEM!?

Because frankly it is. It is clear what liberals stand for and to say anything less is either naive or ignorant.

You say "little differences". Answer me how liberals feel about the following.....

abortion
gun control
globalism
healthcare
terrorism
illegal immigrants
government spending
taxes

Are you seriously going to tell me that conservatives and liberals feel the same way?

LOL Marie.....I see they have got you too!

Oh, by the way....Awesome post. I intend to keep fighting!

abortion - let women and not the government decide what to do with their bodies

gun control - no private citizen needs to own an uzzi, AK-47 or bazooka. Dems are fine with people owning guns for protection - just not assault weapons.

globalism - end Republican tax breaks for corporations that ship American jobs overseas. Bush and the Republicans have also overseen the selling of American assets and government debt to foreign governments at an unprecedented level.

government spending - fiscal responsiblility is in order after the biggest spending President and Congress under Republican control in the history of the nation.

terrorism - against it

illegals - against them (unlike Bush and McCain)

healthcare - make it affordable and accessible to all Americans

taxes - cuts for the middle class are in order. Republicans have supported a policy that has cut taxes on income earned through investments and the market but left taxes in place on income - this has disproportionately helped the upper class (of which I am a member) at the expense of the middle class.

We may differ, but most Americans share the views that I have just laid out.
