THE STATE OF THE UNION

Last night as I watched the last State of the Union Address by President Bush there were several distinct instances during the speech that I wish I could bottle up and send to every voter in this nation. Each involved the spending of the people's money and each obviously exposed the Democrats for who they are.

The President Bush that spoke especially at the beginning of the speech is the Bush that I wish we had had during the first term when he chose to cave so often to the Congress and the Democrats which brought about the massive spending that eventually took the GOP out of the majority.

The moments in the speech that exposed the Democrats for who they are and what they truly think of the American people each dealt with the President's call for reduced taxation and spending. When Bush told Congress that any bill with a tax increase that crossed his desk would receive a VETO, Republicans jumped to their feet and applauded and Democrats sat on their hands and their brains and did not budge.

When Bush called for the tax cuts to become permanent, Republicans cheered and Democrats scowled. Charlie Rangel actually laughed. Especially when Bush stated that anyone who does not think that ending his tax cuts would not be seen as a tax increase by the people , just ask those whose taxes go up by $ 1800.00 and see if they agree.

Another instance occurred when the President referred to earmarks and that any bill that came to his desk with less than a fifty percent reduction in earmarks would receive his VETO, Republicans cheered and Democrats sat on their hands once again. Also when he stated that any bill that came to him with earmarks that were added in Committee then sent to the floor without debate for a vote would again receive a VETO, the Democrats scowled and remained seated while Republicans cheered.

Every instance that I refer to dealt specifically with our money and the way the government spends it. In each instance Bush stood for the people and reducing either our taxes or government spending which effects not only the economy but each of our pocket books and the Democrats hated the very idea even refusing to acknowledge the truth that spending is out of control and the tax burden is to high.

Democrats proved last night that they love taxing the people, love spending our money and despise being told that what they do is the people's business and they are subject to us and not we to them. If these very telling facts could ever be related in a real and truthful way to the American voter does anyone actually believe that a Democrat would be elected to the White House again or find themselves in the majority in Congress ?

Their deception in which Democrats portray themselves as the party of the people has been forced on the American public so much by the liberal media and the lies put forth by the DNC and Democrat candidates since the sixties that many voters actually believe that Democrats favor the common man and the Republicans the rich only.

Pictures speak far more than words and last nights showing by Democrats when the President was telling them how he will stop their tax increase attempts and their excessive spending of our money through earmarks with his VETO, and their response of disdain represents the true colors of a Democrat and that they view the people as an inconvenience preventing them from controlling our government and every aspect of our lives!

Ken, I hate to tell you this, but it was this President and the Republican congress that exploded spending, annual budget deficits, and the National Debt. Their excesses are now the problems for all Americans today and in future generations.

I don't really care whether you or your regulars believe me - it is an objective fact.

I know we have had this discussion before, so I won't go through all of the numbers. I suggest your visitors actually look up the National Debt figures and the amount of U.S. government debt held by foreign governments at the U.S. Treasury Department website. You can look up the annual government spending figures and the budget deficit figures over at the CBO.

By law the government's figures are reported the same way no matter who controls Congress or the White House. Look up the raw figures, they are as plain as day.

Regarding Rob's comment, it is beside the point that this war costs money. We have to protect this country. The denial of liberals is totally unbelievable.

When the President called for tax reduction and spending, the Democrats did indeed sit on their hands and their brains, as you said, Ken. They can't help the second part though. It's where their brains are located! By scowling at the thought of not being able to increase taxes they proved to anyone who isn't brain dead exactly who they are.

They hated the part about not being able to get their private projects through, too. If the Dems can't tax us and spend our money on studying the sex habits of the tse-tse fly, they aren't happy.

Bush implemented tax cuts and the Democrats hated it. Bush wants to make them permanent and the Republicans cheered but the Dems hated it. You are so right that it cannot be denied.

The Democrats don't want to govern us, they want to control us. They want us dependent on government for everything from health care to our personal diets. If we let the Dems gain control will wind up like the UK where they now have "lunchbox police" in their public schools, muslims are running rampant and the Three Little Pigs have been banned because it's offensive to them.

I'm not going to apologize for not wanting to live in a country where the Democratic party is actually a dictatorship! That's not what this country is all about and not ever what it was intended to be. Democratic control = socialism, pure and simple. Anyone who denies that is living in La La Land.

Gayle, the war costs are not part of the budget. Bush has been funding it through his "emergency" supplementals. For years, both Republicans and Dems have asked him to put it as part of his budget, but he refuses to do it because that would add $120-$150 billion to the already record budget deficits that he has created.

Bush's budget for this year that he proposed to Congress was $2.9 trillion. That does not include the $70 billion that he is now asking for Iraq (which won't be enough anyway, but he likes to split his requests and ask for 2-3 a year.

The last year under Clinton the entire government spending was at $1.79 trillion. Even if you want to add a healthy $300 billion for war costs, it still means that Bush is far outspending him.

You can believe whatever you want, but the social programs like Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, faith-based grants, and the explosion of Republican earmarks blew up spending. Under Dems this past year, earmarks are down more than 60 percent from the last year of the Republican congress.

All of these are facts - not spin.

Sounds like Rob is the only guy that has any brains on this blog. I check the site occasionally to try to get a well-rounded diet of opinion. However, this blog is more of the same ultra-conservative, isolationist, brainless BS. This blog is actually quite humorous. Keep up the good work.

Keith, I like most of the folks here and consider myself the resident liberal.

If you show up regularly, you'll recognize the people who are willing to actually debate and those who don't.

Keith: Whatever.

We must STOP this "blame a party" for issues like the deficit and debt. The only people to blame is ourselves. The GOP uses earmarks and deficits as badly as the dems, and the irresponsibility and negligence can be attributed to each and every person sent to Washington.

Deficits and debt started way before this administration. There are times when debt is necessary, but th routine use of borrowing and taxing to keep consituents happy is a tragedy.

We need to blame ourselves and correct our own outlook. Why do we allow earmarks that are never voted on in a legislature? Why do we demand that our representatives and Senators bring home money just to bring it home? We have to make oursleves responsible before we can make others responsible.

Our legislators vote on things that they have never read. Do you think maybe if they were less concerned about who is using seroids in baseball and more concerned aout who is using earmarks to buff up a state budget then we would be in better shape?

Rob, I have no delusions as to how the GOP while in the majority spent. In fact I'm sure you will remember that I wrote quite a lot about their bad spending habits etc.

But on the other hand they have always favored tax cuts while the Dems are the opposite. That my friend is fact.

Also Bush though a big spender in the past has since January of last year finally found his VETO stamp and has been trying to hold spending down and his statements about earmarks are right on the money.

The war expenditures while not part of the overall budget are something that regardless of your stance on the war are a necessary expense while we are at war to protect our troops and to allow them the mean to fight.

The Dems made it very obvious during the seech that they dislike tax cuts, controlling earmarks and reducing spedning. That was my point of the post!

Oh BTW thanks for you comment to Keith. There are some very good comments and discussion that takes place here . I only wish that time allowed me to participate in more threads than I do. But it is somewhat of a consulation to know that the psost spark the comment even when I am not able to participate !

I think Rob is value added to the discussions. While we have a different angle, at least the debate/discussion is civil and resonable.

Life would be boring if we didn't think each other a moron from time to time...LOL.

Here is your choice Ken.

Dems - tax and spend.

Reps - borrow and spend even more.

You may not like tax and spend, but it is far, far better than borrow and spend even more. The latter results in debt that future generations have to pay back with interest, quite often to foreign governments.

I'd rather pay for the spending myself than have to owe the Chinese.
