DEMOCRATS - STOP MEASURING THE DRAPES
Yesterday in his press conference President Bush gave two excellent examples of Democrat arrogance in the Mid Term election. Using a football analogy of the after touch down celebration and that many Democrats were already measuring the drapes for their, "new, " Congresssional offices Bush brought a clear reminder of the old Yogi Berra saying, " It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings." For the majority of the year Demcorats across the board have been acting and talking as if it were a forgone conclusion that they would be in charge of the House and the Senate come January 2007 when the next session of Congress begins. Most of the media has followed this same path based on a percieved notion that the GOP was dead in the water and that the conservative base because of a general discontent with the GOP majority had decided to stay home on election day. It still amazes me that with record contributions to the RNC that any conclusion that the base would stay home on election day could be made since the base of any party is the core and grass roots of campaign contributions, but the conclusion has been on the lips of Demcorats, many media personalities and written about in Op-ed after Op-ed. Being a conservative, though dissappointed with the lack of backbone by GOP leadership and the large spending that has taken place which is contrary to the smaller government belief that is part of the core of conservatism, I like my conservative brethren who vote GOP realize that the prospects of a Democrat controlled Congress is one that we cannot accept and as such there is a concerted effort by the base to see that this does not happen through our GOP vote on November 7th. This seems to come as a surprise to many Demcorats, political pundints and pollsters, yet has never been in doubt by the GOP nor the conservative base. Additionally the arrogant confidence that the Democrats have portrayed with media assistance in claiming the House and the Senate for most of this year almost to the point of discounting the voter has caused a general anger by GOP voters and especially the conservative base. Giving the impression that they knew that they had voters in their back pocket and that the election was only a matter of procedure to crown the, "new majority, "may have been part of the undoing of the Demcorats. No one likes a braggart. For instance though he may be a talented receiver Terrell Owens now of the Dallas Cowboys is an unpopular player because he constantly brags on himself as if he were the center of the football universe. In his mind it's all about Terrell. In this same respect the Democrats have arrogantly taken for granted that they were the voters choice and that their ascendancy to Congressional power was already decided. This does not suggest that the GOP has a lock on the Mid Term election but it is obvious that the Demcrats find is surprising that races that they thought they had complete control of are now tight and in many the GOP is actually leading. Senator Elizabeth Dole, (R NC), the chairman of the GOP Senate election commitee stated yesterday before her Demcorat counter part Chuck Schumer, (D NY), that she found a certain satisfaction in knowing that the DNC had to take out a loan to funnel funds into Democrat Senate campaigns in blue states that have a distinct possibility of electing a GOP candidate. The states that she referes to are Maryland and New Jersey. The Senate is not the only chamber that has been taken for granted by the Demcorats yet is showing a lean toward the GOP, the House which was in most circles an absolute forgone conclusion to change majority status is looking to remain in GOP control. This election could very well be a valuable lesson for the Demcorats and the media in remebering to never discount the effects of the one entity that decides the actual results of any election in our Constitutional society - the voter. Elections are never a forgone conclusion because regardless of the pundints the pollsters or the feeling of the candidates we the voter are the expert and final voice in deciding an election.

Yes we are, Mike, and I am hoping that the Democrats are once again running to their psychiatrists to deal with their disappointment as they did after Bush won the last election. They had to set up special phychiatric clinics in Florida. Do you remember that? Sheesh!

Democrats are not measureing the drapes. I am a democrat, I know. It's the rightwing media that is trying to paint us with that brush, when in fact, we dems are rather skeptical of taking back either house. This whole idea is a rightwing lie.
For one thing, we anticipate voter fraud on the part of the GOP.
But if things are looking good for the dems, I can see how that would make rightwingers and republicans insecure enough to keep harping on that scenario. It's transparent.

Massive vote fraud by DEMOCRATS in 2004 was not only proven, but many cases were successfully prosecuted.

The funniest example of an idiot Dem was the case of Chad Staton in Defiance, Ohio. He turned in 130 voter registration cards all registered to his home address with names like: ,Mary Poppins, Jeffrey Dahmer, Janet Jackson, George Foreman, Brett Favre, Michael Jordan, and Dick Tracy.
He was paid with crack cocaine by the NAACP.
Somehow I doubt you read about this and other stories in your "Republicans steal elections" chat rooms.
And don't even try and tell me that "both parties do it" because you cannot point to anything comparable to the level of fraud, voter intimidation and harrasment that the Democrats regularly employ.
If only you people devoted your energy to helping us win the war on terror instead of trying to steal and defraud the democratic process. We might have won the war by now.

The part about the NAACP paying Chad Stanton with crack cocaine is one of the vilest of the urban rightwing myths, ie, Big Lie out there. Kind of like when Rove was shown to have bugged himself and then blamed it on the democrats. If these are the best examples that you've got, than I'm afraid that ya aint got much. And why are you only focusing on so-called democratic voter fraud? Why aren't you up in arms about republican voter fraud, if you're so concerned with voter fraud?
You are the one who is saying "both parties do it" unless you actually are going to deny that the GOP has participated in voter fraud, and you know you can't say that. Ever hear of the phone jamming scandal? Bet you don't hear much about that on your rightwing chat sites.

Infact the Chad Stanton example is, in and of itself, a case of Republican Voter Fraud. It's a case of dissemination of false facts, smears, and dirty tricks. A lot like the Willy Horton thing.
No respectable study ever backed up any of Mikes examples. The so-called think tank he sites is an orgainzation of two, including the receptionist.
Ken, even Dick Morris believes the bias displayed by the media is having a reverse effect on the voters. The desire to impart a feeling of helplessness on the conservative base is stirring the base to the point of turning out to spite the negativity. He also reads the obvious attempt at voter manipulation in MS with the Michael J. Fox advertisement as having an impact exactly the opposed of the desired outcome. Even the Foley folly is being viewed as a GOP victory, because the GOP stuck to their principles – Foley’s gone out of office, an investigation is taking place, and the party condemns his actions; just the opposite of the Democrat Studds incident.
Personally, I am disgusted with the low morals of most politicians (both parties) and wish honest principled people with decent morals would run in each party. I guess the old saying about honest people don’t want to be politicians is all too true.

Old Soldier, Though I have viewed the sceptisism of Dick Morris in this election he though having a change since his Clinton years still does not understand the conservative base. He expresses surprise that we are still voting and having a strong influence in the election. He does not understand that we vote on issues and not scandals and do not leave the voting sphere just because we find dissappointment in the GOP.

Mudkitty, why is it that when voters decide against liberals there is always accusation of voter fraud? Can liberals not accept when their agenda is rejected by the voters as it has been in the last several election cycles ?
As for Dick Morris you seem to forget that he was the author of the Clinton victories, sort of the Karl Rove for the Clinton's, and had a change of heart to a more moderate view as he personally saw the inner workings of the Clinton White House. His disgust with the Clinton's and the Democrat Party, by his own admission along with his support for the war is why he is no longer in the liberal sphere of influence. Dick Morris is not the come all and end all as you sarcastically are suggesting that we see him but has a very learned view from the inside of how a liberal administration works and has come out against it because of what he knows not what he speculates.
Well, author, it dates back to a little known constitutional crises called Florida 2000 - although voter fraud is as old as the hills. That's why sunshine is the best disinfectant, and why Diebold and their "trade secrets" have no business in the open government system that is, or was supposed to be our honest American government. (I mean our government as opposed to the Bush Administration, two different things.)
As for Dick Morris, his claim to fame is CLAIMING to be the author of Clinton's victories, but not Clinton's failures? Oh right. Morris was the smart one; he should have been president. Yeah sure.
Morris was kicked to the curb by the Clintons, like Foley by the GOP, and rightly so. Morris WISHES he was the Karl Rove of the Clintons. Isn't it so transparent? Or haven't any of you heard of the concept of psychology?
Dick Morris is disgusted - well that's a good recommendation (not.) His inside view is designed to get him on the right wing lecture circut, and a job on Fox, and you all fell for it. Just like the Clinton's originally.
And BTW - Morris no longer supports the Occupation. Which ever way the wind blows...
I just want to say, Ken, if I may call you that, since others here do, that I really apreciate you're putting up with me. This truely is the only rightwing website that allows liberals to post, and for that I thank you and commend you. Your reputation among liberals for being fair is well deserved.

Ken, you know my thoughts about the House (turning over) and Senate (remaining under Republican control). I don't put much stock in what either Party is saying right now - there is plenty of posturing on both sides. We will see in less than 2 weeks.
I do want to correct you on one thing in your post. It wasn't Yogi who said, "It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings."
Yogi said, "It's not over until it's over." It was San Antonio sports broadcaster Dan Cook who coined the ". . . fat lady sings" phrase during the 1978 NBA playoff series between the Spurs and the Washington Bullets. Having grown up in Washington, the phrase was adopted and used all the time by Bullets broadcasters.

Oh and by the way Mudkitty, John Benton and I started this site together since we were co-workers and realized that we had similar political views. He has since taken a subatical from writing but plans on returning in the near future. We are not a , "couple, " as you asked but good friends who share political ideas and philosophy.

Look, it may take a while but the country shifts back and forth. After the 1936 election, the New Deal Dems held the White House and had 334 House seats (compared to 88 Republicans) and 72 Senate seats (17 Republicans). The remaining seats were held by other smaller parties. It must have seemed like the Republicans were going to be wiped out, but absolute power corrupts and the people spoke.
I am confident the House will turn over this election cycle, but no matter the outcome, there are serious problems in this country that neither party is really willing to address. The elimination of habeas corpus, the mess in Iraq, the huge and unsustainable national debt and annual budget deficits created by the current administration, etc.
"Saving marriage" by going out and "getting the gays" won't cut it.
If neither party addresses the real issues, the people will speak and there will be a third, fourth, etc. parties that will take hold.
Yeah..."getting the gays"... take that up with Democrats who outted Mark Foley and half a dozen staffers on Capitol Hill.
And always nice to see Democrats talk about fiscal issues. Too bad they NEVER want to cut ONE social program.

As for suspension of habeas corpus - it has already happened. If you actually read the Military Commissions Act of 2006, S.3930, Section 7 explicitly eliminates the writ of habeas corpus for whomever the President, at his sole discretion, labels a enemy combatant.
Scary. Not what the founders intended. And not conservative at all.
