HOSTAGES RESCUED BY U.S. AND BRITISH TROOPS, HOSTAGES AND FRIENDS UNGRATEFUL
United States and British troops conducted a raid west of Baghdad which resulted in the freedom of three Christian Peacemaker hostages that were kidnapped last November. When troops found the hostages they were bound and their captors had already fled the building. Throughout the day on radio talk shows and news briefs as well as articles in liberal papers the continual reference to this rescue by troops was that the hostages were set free because the captors had already fled giving the impression that the captors had voluntarily released the hostages . First putting this into a little perspective and comparing the situation to a police raid. If a criminal hears or sees police approaching his hideout, if the opportunity presents itself would that criminal not flee the scene to prevent capture.? Absolutely ! Now if captors who were holding hostages that had been continually in the news for several months with one of the hostages already found tortured and murdered by the same captors either being tipped about the raid or saw or heard the troops approach, does it not stand to reason that they would run with their tails between their legs as fast as their murderous legs could carry them ? Again, absolutely! This notion that the media is attempting to portray that this was an easy walk in the park for our troops to , "free, " the hostages is ridiculous. Hostage rescue is one of the most difficult operations that any soldier can carry out because the element of surprise and the well being of the hostages is so important. The danger amplifies because of the desperate situation that the captors find themselves in and in most cases if caught they will fight to the death to prevent capture and the freedom of the hostages. Troops are also forced into a situation where they must protect the hostages from being killed by their captors while fighting the captors which adds a much greater risk to their own lives.
Adding insult to injury of the job performed by these tremendous troops is the group that the hostages are members of the Chicago-based Christian Peacemaker Teams . Throughout the day they have defended the Islamic radicals who took their members hostage and portrayed the coalition troops as the enemy and as terrorists. Never once in any interview did these ungrateful imbeciles express their gratitude for the rescue and when point blank asked about their response to the troops who rescued their fellow members the response was, " the captors had already left." Then in the very same breath condemning the very troops who rescued the hostages.
So this blog will take this opportunity to say thank you to each of the U.S. and British troops who rescued the hostages from their imprisonment and through their bravery and sacrifice gained freedom for three individuals who otherwise were under a death sentence by their captors. Every man and women who is serving in the United States military and our coalition partners place their life on the line every day despite those who do not support them and are attempting by their rhetoric and even their actions to undermine the mission of these heroic individuals. The left through their biased polls and falsehoods would have the world believe that the troops are fighting in vain in an illegal war and that they do not believe in what they are doing and that they themselves agree with those who oppose this war. Talk to any member of the military and they will tell you that this is a balled faced lie. Do they want to come home ? Sure they do but not until they have completed their mission. They will also tell you of the tremendous success that they are seeing in this land they have liberated and that their main fear is not of those that they are fighting or that they will lose this war, but that they fear that the lies and half truths that the media and the left are spewing showing their mission as a failure will turn this country against them as it did those who fought and died in Vietnam. Well to those who serve freedoms cause in Iraq, Afghanistan and anywhere that Old Glory flies as it leads our troops, this country believes in you. We believe in your mission and we wish God's speed and His greatest blessing upon you and your families as you fight to defend this land that we all love. God bless our men and women who serve and protect this nation.

This blew my mind! I wrote this morning about it:
Really Jim, you "love" them? You "love" the people that kidnapped the 4 of you? You "love" the people that tortured your friend Tom Fox? You "love" the people that dragged him out and shot him time after time in the head?
Jim is 1 of 4 that survived and stated that he "loves" the terrorists.
These peacenics need a dose of reality in their liberal minds. Even after torture and capture their heads are so warped that the truth actually passes right over their heads. They even seem to forget that they would not even have a platform to protest or a job were it not for war. Their hypocrisy and lunacy is astounding!
Ken
Ken, you parrot the President when he says that the troops will come home when their mission is accomplished in Iraq. What is the "mission" in Iraq and how will we know when it is accomplished? Give me the metrics and objectives as you understand them.
Rob the mission has been clear and steady since the invasion took place. Sure as in all wars aspects of the mission have evolved over time but the esence of the mission has remained the same. First, take out Hussein:accomplished
Next establish a government elected by the people with a constitution also by the people:accomplished. the government is still in the process of finalizing tha full formation and implimintation but the Iraqis have been governing themselves for some time.
Next, secure the country and build an Iraqi security force. This is well on its way. Your premise wherever you found it that there is not one battalion capable of security is wrong. Most of the military activity that takes place in Iraq involves mainly Iraqi forces, with U.S. assistance. Establishing a new security force that has no resemblance to the Army under Hussein is a long proces yet there has been a tremendous accomplishment in building this security force.
Every day the casualties are less. The media still insists on a body count and even begin the news with , "X number of Iraqis were killed today, " but have you noticed that U.S. casualties are way down? The mission will be completed when Iraq has the full capability of governing and protecting herself. That has always been the end game since day one.
Rob, can you say I parrot the President on the war too? I would find it an honor!
I don't remember Bush telling the American people prior to the war that we were going to nation-build for a decade or longer. But now our mission is to create a functioning military and security force. Maybe if he hadn't disbanded the Iraqi military we would be further along in the mission.
The Iraqi police forces are infested with Shiite militia who are loyal to al Sadr and contrary to what you may believe, there is not a single Iraqi military battalion that can fight in combat without American forces. The one that was ready was downgraded last month.

I guess we will be there for some time yet. Well, at least Bush admits that it will be up to the next President to fix his mess. We will be there until at least 2009. Chalk up another $300 billion and another 2000 American soldiers. All so we can create an Islamic theocracy that abides by Sharia law and views Iran as a friendly neighbor.
I won't bother commenting on the security forces, because obviously you will distrust any progress made.
As for what Iraq will be in many years, that will be told through the political process.
Money, I am curious as to how you came up with that number? I guess just multiplying current costs? Did you consider that as we are doing less operations, dropping less bombs, the Iraq economy growing, and oil flowing freely we will not be, or have to be, spending the same amount as in the past?
In addition, I love your assumption that we will lose members at the same rate. It is the amazing optimists like yourself that attempt to destroy morale. Considering the rate is on the decrease... The enemy tactics are learned, the enemy is being killed or captured, and even though you don't want to believe it the Iraq Forces are doing more and more.
So everything points to being there for a longer time to GOD-FORBID support the Iraqi forces while suffering less loss ourselves.
I gave you the links to two stories that show that the one Iraqi battalion that was deemed combat ready to fight independently was downgraded.
Are there military forces being trained there, sure there are, but after 3 years to not have one capable of fighting on its own is pathetic.
We have spent about $250 billion to date, with another $90 billion committed for this year. The degradation of military hardware such as helicopters, tanks, Humvees, etc. has increased greatly. Replacing these is going to be costly. If we can keep our costs below another $300 billion that would be great, but I am giving you an estimate.
We have no idea how many more troops we are going to lose. Violence flares up from time to time. We have lost over 2300 to date, I am estimating another 2000 through 2009. I hope I am wrong, but it is a reasonable estimate.
There are close ties between Tehran and the Shiite politicians in Iraq (many of whom were in exile in Iran while Saddam was in charge). To think that Iraq is going to magically be a pro-U.S. country when all is said and done is just wishful thinking.
I am not going to bother this debate anymore. You are constantly claiming the concept of the "echo chamber", did you ever think that the places where you tend to get your numbers from happen to be the mother of all echo chambers? I am sure the case is no.
You have your numbers and no Republican could be correct over your quotations and estimates so I will just allow the end result to prove you wrong.
What are your estimates? I'd be happy if my numbers are too high with respect to casualties and costs.
I cite my numbers or can always tell you where I get them from. Usually they are from government sources. If you have different numbers, present them and cite them - I am always happy to learn.
American combat deaths in Iraq have been declining since late last year. Iraqi security forces now appear to be bearing the brunt of violence in the country. The decline was especially significant in February, when 55 American service personnel were killed, compared to 96 in October. More than 2,300 American military personnel have died supporting operations in Iraq.

Huh, death rates are going down for multiple reasons. One of them being that the Iraqi forces are taking over more and more responsibilities. Less US deaths and Iraqi forces doing the work more and more! Also we are around 25 deaths for this month.
(Are you going to turn this in to a negative result or lack of progress?)
20060322 as opposed to most reports which date back to '05 '04 and '03.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5294093
So what are your estimates for the next three years? I have given you mine, and as I said, I hope it will be less.
Last year at this time the trend was lower. There were less than 40 American casualties last March. But that is the nature of the war, it flares up from time to time.
We don't estimate how many people we are going to lose. That is a pointless task; it gets you no where and does horrible things to morale.
I say we will win without losing another soul. Will that happen, I am guessing no. You start putting numbers on things and it is like telling the people to draw straws on who will live.
And tom called you out. When there is a spike it is because everything is going to hell. But when there are good numbers it must just be a lucky month. It can't in anyway be connected to improvement in the situation. Could it?
Every single day, 30 to 60 Iraqis are killed in sectarian violence. I would say that is a civil war. You call it whatever you want.
The declining casualties for Americans could be progress, except all of the evidence suggests that the violence in Iraq is worsening.
If you look at American casualties from month to month since we invaded Iraq here are the highs and lows for American deaths:
2003 - 30 (June and Sept), 82 (Nov)
2004 - 21 (Feb), 137 (Nov)
2005 - 37 (Mar), 95 (Oct)
2006 - 24 (Mar, to date), 61 (Jan)
Each year there are more U.S. casualties than the year before - not less. Who knows what it will be for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009?
However, at some point we have to decide if the blood and treasure we are expending in Iraq is worth it. As I have said, why should we sacrifice several thousand American soldiers and spend half a trillion dollars fighting in the middle of a civil war and creating an Islamic theocracy that is closely aligned to Iran? That is what is happening.
