PRESIDENT BUSH CRITICIZED FOR 2005 CHRISTMAS CARD

The Catholic League today criticized President Bush for not saying Merry Christmas as a greeting in the official White House Christmas card for 2005. This criticism comes on the heals of the heat that retail outlets and other entities have received for using Happy Holidays, rather than Merry Christmas. While I totally agree with the criticism for the attack that has taken place on Christmas,( Sunday Commentary post Attack on Christmas http://theliberalslies.blogspot.com/2005/12/attack-on-christmas-sunday-commentary_04.html ), and the blatant attempt to take away all aspects of the Christian celebration that IS Christmas, I disagree with the criticism of the President's Christmas card. Why ? I have received the card this year as I have in the past and yes the greeting is not Merry Christmas but the critics neglect to inform the public of the heading of the card BEFORE the greeting. This is how the 2005 White House Christmas card reads: underneath the Presidential seal are found these words - "The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him." Psalm 28:7 (RSV) Then the greeting: "With best wishes for a holiday season of hope and happiness 2005 " Then the President and Mrs. Bush's signature.

So as you can see while Merry Christmas is not stated the One in whom we celebrate at Christmas is through the quotation from the Scriptures. There is no attempt to eliminate God from the Christmas celebration of the birth of Christ as is happening in our schools, our decorations and the retail outlets that we shop during the season. The President has NEVER dodged his Christian faith and this card expresses that faith as well a celebrating Christmas.
